RE: [Book] #15. Native Speaker by Chang-rae Lee - Neither Korean Nor American

in #books7 years ago

The quote about the world and a thousand dim souls hit me hard.. It's so true. It's funny how the parents want the kids to succeed in America but want them to be Korean internally. I've once heard a story about my mom's friend. She gives physical punishment to her son in America yet she is afraid that her son will send her to jail.. Isn't that ironic haha

Sort:

It's difficult to be two things at the same time, especially when the two things are at the opposite of the spectrum, like the East(Korea) and the West(America).
But then again, if you can somehow integrate only good things from both sides, then you can thrive both in America and in Korea, too. I just wish many Korean-Americans (or any immigrant from foreign country for that matter) can successfully pull that off. They can be bridges connecting each and every country around the world!
