For the Love of Books

in #books7 years ago

I've pared down a lot of my belongings over the last eighteen months, with the exception being books. They are so useful to me - filled with knowledge and available right there any time I want to revisit them. They inspire me, they comfort me, and can be like a dear friend when I just need to get away from the world outside. Books definitely spark joy in my life.

The best part of moving (yes, yes, still more moving posts) was getting to re-shelve and re-situate books!!!!!!!!!!

They had been living across four separate bookcases, and some on the floor. This new place came with two huge bookcases, plus two smaller ones that I brought with me. Now, most of them are ready to show off (art books are still waiting to be placed).

this is only about 75% of the books, but you get the idea

maybe you can tell where my immediate interests are

beautifully done, totally worth that three hours

bonus bookcase - these are mostly non-fiction, brain science books. plus some really OLD OLD books that i can't help but purchase when they call to me

They're organized by subject, then sorta by size, and sometimes by colour. Having the display of the books tell a story, in and of itself, is important to me. You can tell a lot about a person by the books that they keep!

Sort:

I love books of all kinds. I do read and buy e-books also (I never thought I would, but having a 1000 books with me where I go is too tempting to pass up) but my love is a tangible book. The smell and feel of the written page is just something you'll never get in an e-book.

i am right there with you! i got one of those amazon fire readers about .... a year and a half ago? i use it more to read the stuff that the library has to offer.

indeed - opening a good book is like coming home! <3

What a beautiful display! I can't wait to dive into it!

thank you! there is so much good information in SO MANY of those books. now that i'm mostly unpacked, i am so ready to take a day and just flip through the gardening stuff again.

Book cases full of books are one of my favorite things! I could shuffle and reorganize and stack and reshelf my books all day. Days when I can take them all down to dust and reoganize and I get to touch every single one of them are always good days!

right?!?!?! it's, like, meant to be a serious DATE day with those books! you find places for the ones that were just slid on top, you re-organize where other people put them back wrong. it's so good!

Yeah... 😏 💚 lol

I am all about books and organization! Looks perfect!

much appreciated - yesterday i found a box of kitchen/recipe books still in the trunk. i'm thinking they were intended for donation, and now i'm second guessing that decision. i really want to bring them inside!

lol- so like me! I am a book nerd, reading junkie and library geek!

Nothing as good looking as a well stocked bookshelf. Myself, I'm partial to a nice built-in shelf like you find in an old house.

Old books are fun too - I'm always on the lookout for an old medical textbook or history book at the flea market .

i love built-ins, too - for all sorts of stuff. in the food pantry, for bookshelves, even for MURPHY BEDS and their display cases that are usually around then.

I'm jealous of your nice big shelves! Well done!

thank you! i keep finding books that i've stashed into random boxes. i guess i was a bit more scattered near the end of the packing up LOL

I think everyone is, when moving house!

So many books, I love it!! And those book cases are just the best! Have fun organizing!

thank you, thank you! i'm so pleased with the way it's turning out! :)

Books are my weakness. I probably have in excess of 5000 in this house. A lot were for homeschooling and are in the attic. We have floor to ceiling bookcases all over the house.
