Walmart and Kobo Team Up To Sell Ebooks, Compete With Kindle
This could be a great development in many respects. Walmart and Kobo have teamed up to sell ebooks, in a clear move to compete more effectively with Amazon. While I have some complaints about how Kobo is handling this event (and how they fail to try hard in general), more competition for Amazon is a good thing, and the strength of Walmart will hopefully make up for Kobo's (and Rakuten's) management deficiencies.
While the Walmart site showed changes promptly, it took a few days for things to start showing up in the local Walmart stores. This image is from the one closest to me. You can see that the Walmart eBooks display is at the end of the books aisle, and it's on the higher-foot-traffic end, so that should help.
As they neared this launch, Kobo prompted indie authors to lower prices for one book for a few weeks after the launch. If you have any interest in my fantasy novella The Vengeance of Mirickar now is the time to pick it up on the cheap, but only on Kobo!
