True Grit, Charles Grit. First Edition.
Charles Portis, born in 1933, is an American writer who has been described as "one of the most inventively comic writers of western fiction." He is perhaps best known for his second novel True Grit. It was first published in serial form in the Saturday Evening Post in 1968. The novel is a western, and tells the story of fourteen year-old Mattie Ross who, along with the one-eyed US Marshall Rooster Cogburn, sets out to avenge the murder of her father by one Tom Chaney. Considered by some critics as one of the Great American Novels, it has seen two film adaptations, most recently Joel and Ethan Cohen's acclaimed 2010 eponymously titled film.
