Rare Book of the Day – Computer Lib/Dream Machines, Theodore Nelson. First Edition.
This one should be a hit around these parts: Computer Lib/Dream Machines, by Theodore Nelson. A spiritual manifesto that inspired a generation of DIY computer lovers, this is often considered the first book on the personal computer, published before the release of the Altair 8800 kit.
This book is comprised of two titles bound back to back: Computer Lib, which is 69 pages, and Dream Machines, which is 59 pages. This is the first edition, third printing from 1975. Pretty uncommon in any printing.
In Steven Levy's book Hackers, Computer Lib is described as "the epic of the computer revolution, the bible of the hacker dream. [Nelson] was stubborn enough to publish it when no one else seemed to think it was a good idea." Nelson was a pioneer in information tech, coining the terms "hypertext" and "hypermedia" in 1963(!). Pretty rad.
