Literary Audio of the Day – 'Turn on, Tune In, Drop Out', Timothy Leary. (1966 LP)

This is pretty great. Turn on, Tune In, Drop Out was Leary's first record, released in 1966, and not to be confused with the 1967 one with the same title. In this one, he talks about life at the Millbrook, NY estate, and how it's a center for psychedelic research. He talks about how drugs can be used as a tool and that he expects the upcoming generation to begin using these tools in a responsible and intelligent manner. The whole thing is a quiet little speech, a one-on-one type dialogue directed towards young, open minds, with the intent of getting them to avoid the old establishment and to gently drop out of society and begin using drugs to expand their minds.
