Взагалі, я її виграв у свій час у стандартному facebook-конурсі «виграй за репост» (так, це дійсно інколи діє, сам був дуже здивований), інакше не знаю, чи попала б колись книжка античного філософа до моєї домашньої бібліотеки. Так що книжка у мене від видавництва, і з автографом перекладача – знаного у деяких колах Андрія Содомори)))

Давньоримський філософ Сенека, який жив у дохристиянські часи і ідеї якого, по суті в дечому лягли в основу християнського богослов’я. Багато в чому він якраз і мислив ранньохристиянськими категоріями. У своїх діалогах він приділяє увагу питанням короткочасності життя, щасливому життю, спокою душі, дозвілля мудреця.
Його діалоги відрізняються від сучасного наукового викладу філософії, як ми звикли. Швидше це традиція вуличних проповідників, мандрівних філософів античного світу, які виходили до людей, і в живій формі дискусії проповідували ті чи інші ідеї своїх шкіл.
У своїх морально-етичних настановах мислитель вказував на плинність часу, короткотривалості життя і необхідності прожити його максимально корисно. Сам, досить знаний чиновник і небідний вельможа, Сенека вказував на минучість і тлінність матеріального. На необхідності духовного росту. А також недосконалості людського. Коли йому вказували на невідповідність його життя тому що він декларує - , філософ пояснював, що неможливо бути досконалим тут і зразу, але кожен день треба намагатися прожити так, щоб зрости кращим ніж ти був скажемо вчора. І головне, не треба бути залежним від тих матеріальних благ, які ти осягнув.
Десь це він і доводив і довів своїм життям, коли спокійно при імператору перерізав собі вени, тим самим продемонструвавши байдужість до смерті.
