The murazzi war.

Here I am talking about the first of the books I read for the literary prize.

The book is called the Murazzi War and is written by Enrico Remmert.

The Murazzi War, consists of a collection of more or less long stories, focusing almost entirely on the theme "Stranger" and on Italian / foreign relations.  Moving from immigration to Italians investing abroad.  The first story is not my favorite is set in Turin, suburbs, murazzi, a shady, dark environment and yet the adolescence of the protagonist, eh yes, this time the author has chosen a female point of view and interprets it very well! The murazzi become the setting for an Italian / Albanian, painful and lively love story.

Described with a strange vision, between romantic moments, I would dare to say poetic and a dark cynicism.  The female voice is realistic and sweet and racism remains a recurring theme in this story, as is also a certain love melancholy.

The second story instead has a more dreamy air, as you read it you can feel the summer heat on and the sticky sweat of the burning sun of Cuba.

It speaks of Italians in Cuba, their attempt to understand a people in revolt, their way of seeing chaos clouded by sex, smoke and dreams.  Of their dreams, their ideas and their fleeting love, of money, revolution and different worlds, mixed with a shamanic mysticism.  And then there are short stories, a Japanese hairdresser who needs helium to fly his creations and then there is Serbia, raw and tough with its struggles and its past.  Remmert has a flowing and strong writing style, describes simple stories in an exemplary manner, strongly making the feelings palpable, reading it creates a strong empathy between characters and reader and you can not but feel a bit of bitterness in the mouth after reading the his stories.

I do not know if this will be the book that will get my vote but certainly it is a book that will remain engraved in my memory.

Thank you for your review. I strongly am suggesting putting this upon my book list. I find fascination upon 'strange vision'as a unique mindset allows us to observe the world with a different pair of glasses.

Your line of "seeing chaos clouded by sex, smoke and dreams." illustrates that this book does not hold any filter which sounds highly appealing as a story should never hold back.
