Nonfiction November TBR (Readathon)

in #books7 years ago

Hi Steemians!

If you're new to the concept of Readathons - it's bascially a type of reading challenge where you're trying to read a certain type or amount of books in a set period of time. Sometimes there are additional little challenges involved that are a little more specific than just genre, but that's about the gist of it.

This month I'm planning on participating in a Readathon that runs for all of November, called Nonfiction November. The goal is to read as many nonfiction books as possible (the creators have also given some prompts to help you choose books but I won't be sticking to those).

In this video I'm sharing the nonfiction books I really want to get to - and if you're noticing a South East Asian theme, don't be surprised.

If you have any other nonfiction recommendations, please let me know!

Happy reading,
xx

I didn't read many nonfiction books, so the ones I like most are old ones. I enjoyed "Talk like TED" and "the stroke of insight". Talk like TED shows you how to best give presentation and public speech, and the latter was about a brain scientist who had a stroke. She tells you inside information, every symptom and details of a stroke as she was suffering and surviving the stroke herself.

I see that you're quite into South East Asia. :)
Enjoy reading and having fun!

Thanks for the recommendations! Especially the second one sounds super interesting :)
Yes I love SEA :D I lived in Japan for a year and am studying both Chinese and Japanese, the different cultures there are absolutely fascinating!

Alas! I'm from between them, South Korea. ;-)

Oh cool! I'm sorry to say I don't know much about SK or NK but it's definitely something I want to learn more about! Hopefully I can find some more good books on these countries as well :)

You absolutely don't need to be sorry for being honest! :)
It's also true that there aren't many books about Korea in English. Hopefully I can write some in the future. XD Cross my fingers for it. ;)

I'm counting on it! You'll be my info source :D Definitely crossing my fingers for you :)

Good luck with your readathon challenge this month, Theresa! Tokyo Vice is a fun read. I'm familiar with Mao but not the particular book about him you are reading, but I have no familiarity with any of the other ones you mentioned (other than House of Leaves, which you had a separate post about). I hope you have a great time with your TBR pile! :)
