Pros & Cons: Traditional Reading vs. Audio Books
Reading is one of the most common and traditional hobbies for those looking to fill their free time. Those that consider themselves readers are passionate about being transported into the world of the written word. Whether it’s learning a new skill, being transported to new lands, or cozying up to the words of a historic poet, there’s no question that books hold a lot of opportunity in their pages.
Since reading is a hobby with a lot of avenues to pursue, readers tend to have strong opinions on what and how they read. As an avid reader and successful innovator, I know the importance of learning from books. As a digital marketing pro, a lot of my success has come directly from what I’ve learned from others via their literature. That’s why I’m here to address the debate on the pros and cons of traditional reading vs. audio books.
Traditional Reading
There’s nothing better than a smell of a book. I’m sure that many would agree with me on that, as well. Traditional ink and paper books are a great option for many more reasons than just their cozy smell. If you’re like me and are picking up a book to learn more, a traditional book is easy to highlight, bookmark, and jot notes in. When purchasing a physical copy of your book, if you are doing so in a bookstore, you also have a great opportunity to chat with the store’s employees and tap into their thoughts and opinions on the genre your seeking.
Trying to limit your paper product usage? Try switching to digital books on Kindle, iPad, or many other devices that you can read from. Many of these options also offer the same or similar benefits as paperbacks and hardcovers whether it’s highlighting, note-taking, or other features. Likewise, getting your hands on a book is easier than ever with the digital options allowing you to purchase a new read with the touch of a button.
Audio Books
Let’s face it; while sitting down with a cup of tea and a good book sounds idyllic, sometimes that simply isn’t an option. Life moves fast and that can prohibit us from sitting down with a physical copy of our favorite book. Audio books allow us the information that’s in books, but in a more accessible format that can be listened to almost anywhere. While reading in the middle of a traffic jam is unsafe at best if you’re the driver, listening to an audio book provides you with the same content and helps fill the time and your mind during the commute. Whether you’re driving a car, working, or simply in need of a more hands-free option, audio books are a great alternative.
Another great part of audio books are the unique artistry they provide. Through the spoken word, you’re allowed a fresh outlook via the voice actor’s capabilities and can hear the story through a whole new point of view as you listen to your favorite actor, singer, or even the author themselves tell the tale.
No matter how you choose to do it, getting that valuable information through reading is important for anyone – especially those looking to take their business to new heights. If you’re looking for your next book, here are my recommendations!
