The only certainty when governments change is the variant level of chaos that ensues during its transition. Miles Lord can be found in the middle of this chaos as he is an American outsider tasked with verifying that his client, among other contenders, is the closest living relative of the Romanov dynasty while Russia attempts to transition back into an empirical form of governance after the fall of communism. Along the way Miles and a native Russian, Akilina, discover that Rasputin's prophecy about the continuation of the Romanov line was not only possible but true as more than one Romanov may have survived the famous executions carried out in the Ural Mountains. This means that his client, in addition to other every other candidate currently fighting for power, would be ineligible as the future tsar of Russia. The political power struggle turns into a life threatening one as Miles pursues the rightful tsar living undercover in America. Does he want the responsibility of rule and do the Russian people really want him, an outsider, to lead?

This is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone who likes Dan Brown books as it starts out with an action sequence and mixes historical loopholes with conjecture and future possibilities. Russian political history and United States immigration history play a major part in this novel so it would also be a good read for people with an interest in political intrigue. Those who like to travel will enjoy the ride as the main characters traverse a wide range of major landmarks and cities between Russia and the United States while they search for the hidden tsar. This is also a great book for those interested in the "what if" side of history when it comes to the rise and fall of empires like in The Man in the High Castle. All of the above interest me so this is a definite keeper for my library!

This sounds like an intense and suspenseful book! One that will keep you continualy turning the pages to find out what happens next!

Books about Russia and the United States are always popular because it seems like those two nations are always racing for something. They are silently at war.

It really is hard to put down! I'd love to see it as a movie actually. Outside of the ongoing silent war there would be plenty of notable locations and lots of action. Not to mention historical flashbacks from both countries! Thanks for reading :)

Yes, it would definitely be a cool movie that I think a lot of people would enjoy!
