Tim Ferriss's Best Book

in #books7 years ago (edited)

Back in 2007, the gold and white book responsible for monopolizing watercooler conversations and beach blanket space was Tim Ferris’s The 4 Hour Workweek. The quick, 300 page read was Tim’s big splash into mainstream media, and while the book was more motivational than actionable for most of us, it did act as a dawn of something special for the author.

Fast forward to today and the master lifehacker has written four more books, established an extremely popular podcast (The Tim Ferriss Show) and even launched a new TV show (Fear{less}). The enduring thesis behind all of these publications is Tim's continued effort to absolutely maximize every advantage and life experience you encounter. And fortunately for his audience, the material has become progressively more mature and impactful.

Which brings us, my fellow Steemit Champions, to Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World. TOM is a wonderful compendium of responses by subject matter experts from every possible field and walk of life. Quite possibly Tim’s easiest read yet, it is also, in my opinion, undeniably his best.

The book was created after the author sent 11 thought-provoking questions off to damn near everyone on his contact list about how they had succeeded (and often, failed) in life. Fortunately, TOM shows us that Tim Ferriss did happen to have the email addresses to a significant number of world class experts. Some of these badasses include: Neil Gaiman, Ray Dalio, Darren Aronofsky, Arianna Huffington, Yuval Noah Harari, Marie Forleo (the wife loves this lady), Bear Gryllls, and many, many more…

And while the big names/backgrounds of the interviewees certainly have appeal, the true worth of this book is in the legit time-stopping wisdom it provokes. I don’t use “time-stopping" here flippantly either. I often see my nights and weekends slip by amongst chaos and mindless activities. There have been a number of occurrences where I yearn to slow down, reset my mind and establish some conscious self-direction, instead of launching into the next activity like an ill-fated bug foolishly clinging to the side of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy. Tribe of Mentors is that brake pedal when I pick it up and read quotes like this one offered by venture capitalist, Mike Maples Jr.:

“Ego is about who’s right. Truth is about what’s right.”

Filled with so many moments of enlightenment and in a format that is easy to pick up for even a few minutes at a time, I simply cannot recommend TOM enough. The hard lessons learned, the funny moments enjoyed and the experiences absorbed by so many of these incredible personalities will leave you with, dare I say, an empowering fresh perspective on daily life.

So give Tribe of Mentors a try at the link below. If nothing else, I know you’ll applaud Mr. Ferriss on his finest written “lifehack” to date.

I am OBSESSED with Tim Ferriss. Great article, thanks for sharing! I have only just started this book and so far am loving it. His podcast is an almost-daily companion as well.

It really is excellent, this book and the podcast as well! How about his 2 hour episode on bitcoin?! Great background about crypto with Nick S.

Im always dubious about Ferris there is a lot to like about some of his stuff but also some incredibly questionable content.

I did however try moda at his suggestion and that stuff is powerful effective.

Oh yeah, you're right on point with that @shai-hulud. He can get pretty out there. That's why I've liked his latest stuff a lot more - more grounded, more improvements/items for "everyday" people.

Yeah makes a little more sense than just telling the average joe they sould outsource everything they don't like doing

Thanks for bringing the new book to our attention. I have yet to catch up on Tools of Titans yet, but by the sounds of it this is the one to go to first. And it does sounds incredible. Straight away you had my attention with the first name on your list - Neil Gaiman.

Nice review. I've heard of Tim Ferriss but didn't know what he did. I'll see if this book is on Audible and add it to my queue. It seems like just the sort of thing I'm looking for at this stage of my life. Thanks for putting this up!

It isn't on Audible. Dang.
