Until about 25 million years ago, humans sustained themselves by gathering plants and hunting animals that lived and reproduced without their interference. Homo erectus, Homo ergaster and Neanderthals picked wild sycamores and hunted wild sheep without having to decide where sycamore trees should grow. Which pasture should a flock of sheep graze in, or which male goat should inseminate which female goat? Homo sapiens spread from East Africa to the Middle East, to Europe and Asia, and eventually to Australia and the Americas, but wherever they went, sapiens also continued to gather wild plants and hunt wild animals to make a living. What more is there to do when your lifestyle provides you with an abundance of food and supports a rich world of social structures, religious beliefs, and political activism?

पिछले 25 सालों तक मनुष्य उन वनस्पतियों को बटोरकर और उन पशुओं का शिकार कर अपना उदरपोषण करते रहें थे , जो उनके हस्तक्षेप के बिना रहते और प्रजनन करते आए थे । होमो इरेक्टस , होमो एर्गस्टर और निएंडरथल्स जंगली गूलर तोड़ते थे और जंगली भेड का शिकार करते थे और यह करते हुए वे यह फैसला नहीं लेते थे की गूलर के वृक्षों को कहाँ उगाना चाहिए ?भेंढ़ो के झुंड को किस चरगाह मे चरना चाहिए या कौन स बकरा किस बकरी का गर्भाधान करे । होमो सेपिएन्स पूर्वी अफ्रीका से मध्य पूर्व तक ,यूरोप और एशिया तक और अंततः ऑस्ट्रेलिया अमेरिका तक फैले , लेकिन जहाँ कहीं भी वे गए , सेपिएन्स ने भी जंगली वनस्पतियों एकत्र कर और जंगली जानवरों का शिकार कर अपनी आजीविका को जारी रखा । और कुछ करने की जरूरत भी क्या है , जब आपकी जीवन शैली आपको प्रचुर मात्रा में भोजन मुहैया कराती हो और सामाजिक संरचनाओ , धार्मिक आस्थाओं तथा राजनैतिक सक्रियता की समृद्धि दुनिया को सहारा देती हो ?
