So, I read a lot of books. On average one every day. Or every other day. In addition to all the other stuff I read. 

Anyways, I thought it'd be a good idea to use this as a platform to share some of my key takeaways from each book with a sort of "Book Of The Day" thing.

It'll help reinforce my memory, and you'll get important insights without having to actually read the book, so...

Today's book of the day is "The Automatic Millionaire: A Powerful One-Step Plan to Live and Finish Rich", and it's about managing yourself, and your finances.

Finances being one of the most important things you should have been taught about in school, but which most people don't really know a lot about.

Some of my key takeaways:

• Invest in yourself first. Always, always invest in yourself first. Too many people invest in the bills, entertainment, government, and more. The result is that not much is left over to pay yourself. And you never end up doing it.
• Do the important things first and everything else will fall into place. Here's why investing in yourself first works so well. It's like the story of the professor who filled a glass jar with sand first. And then tried to fit the stones in. Doesn't work that way. You need to put the big stones in first (the important things), then fill it to sand (the little things) if you want to get everything to fit.
• Don't rely on willpower, discipline or even habits. If you rely on those too much, chances are you'll drop the ball sooner or later. Whatever you need to get done on a regular basis, find a way to automate it. For the important things in life, you want to make sure it happens regardless of whether you're in the mood or not. For example, using automated banking systems to automatically put a percentage of your income in a pre-tax retirement account.
• If you want something, just ask. A lot of things are incredibly easy to get, but most of the time we never think of asking. Asking can get you a long way. Like asking a credit card company to reduce your interest rate or you'll move your credit card debt to another company with a lower rate of interest.
