Flipstars Bookclub : Never eat alone Part 1
—Margaret Wheatley
I want to read more not only for the reason I enjoy it, I also want to know more than yesterday.
I especially enjoy reading self- improvement books about meditation, routines, habits and this time how to connect with people.
–Tony Robbins
With this quote in mind, I want to make and share my notes with you, in the hope we might even can have a discussion about it. Maybe you have read the book also and you think I missed important points?
I will coin my interpretitions from this book to steemit as it was my main motivation to become a better networker here to pick it up.
I dont know yet, how I want to do this series. If I want to post a recap for every chapter, day or just the whole book but we shall see.
This is chapter 1 for now.
As I think networking is really interesting for all of us on steemit I chose "Never eat alone" as my first book.
"I learnt, true networking is looking for possibilities to help others succeed. You have to try to give more then you take."
Dont keep count who upvotes you, with how much %. Reward good content with an upvote and a comment. If you really like it, resteem it.
“Poverty, I realized, wasn’t only a lack of financial resources; it was isolation from the kind of people who could help you make more of yourself.”
As a minnow, you need to work harder and comment better as people with more voting power because your vote dont get as much noticed $ wise.
Your quality of your comment should make up for it, if you want attention.
This goes hand in hand with the first note: consistency is king. Be so kind they cant ignore you but still genuine.
"If you boil down the business world to its core, it comes down to people are selling something to other people"
"Business is a human enterprise, driven and determined by people.”
Even it is fun and all because money is involved steemit is a business. You try to sell me your article and push the upvote button and vice versa.
For the most part, my votes go out to the people I have a "dog" relationship. I am used to them. They usually are nice to me so I want to be nice to them also.
Somewhere down the road I felt we built a connection and I want to support you.
So you get my vote because of our connection, the comments, upvotes and resteems we already shared. Or we have talked in the steem chat. And for the most part I am staying faithful.
I am also a "cat voter"from time to time. I go out and look for fresh food in form of new content somewhere else then in my usual territory and maybe I leave you a dead bird in form of a vote, comment or/and follow as a present but maybe I am also gone for several days and do not care anymore.
In Poker you measure your success through your winrate in big blinds won over 100 hands and take the average. You might have sessions (posts) where you do really good but then there also times you do really bad.
You try to only care about your average winnings.
I think this is also a good approach for steemit and I think you get a better average if you get into dog relationship with your followers.
Dont get me wrong your content is important for that but it is not called content media, it is called social media for a reason.
Like your post
thank you
I find myself being mostly a "dog" person as well, in particular with people who I have met in chat. Only if I like their content though because I want to actually participate and I have a hard time if it is someone who has all resteems or its simply subject matter that isn't to my taste.
I noticed also like just now you had upvoted a post of mine. I saw it and thought oh yea I remember he had a cool article the other day let me go check out his blog and see if he has anything new. I was pleasantly surprised with a topic that I am yet again interested in because I have much to learn on the subject. I think in that sense an upvote or comment is also a small "advertisement" because I actively seek out those who do so for me because I want to build genuine relationships on Steemit and I appreciate such actions so I look into their profile and posts.
This quote "I learnt, true networking is looking for possibilities to help others succeed. You have to try to give more then you take." is sort of my philosophy in a work sense because I find if you add more value than you take out people want to work with you because they see that. In a Steemit sense I try to operate the same way and that is partially why I created the Steemit trading cards. I want to provide value by helping promote other people and create things unique for them and for the Steemit community as a whole.
I think that you have a common interest is really important to create a genuine connection. If I would try to connect with someone, where I think his/her content is bs or I am not interested in at all I would have a hard time, since my comments would suck and not be very valuable.
It is different if I am just not familiar with the topic but willing to learn and show genuine interest.
Yes, I agree upvotes are kind of an advertisment but only if they are meaningful to the post still.
For example if I upvote a post which is already at 300$ my upvote will not get a lot of attention as if I upvote a post which is at 1$.
This is why I think commenting is a better advertising for most.
If we hadnt met before, I would check out your blog for sure after such a comment. As I can see you really read my post and put time and effort into your comment.
In the shoes of a minnow I think this is your best bet here. If we can connect further depends on your content then of course.
If you post about snakes and taxes we will probably have a hard time connecting further but if you have articles/pictures whatever which I find interesting the first step is made.
wow, great post, really, although I am chafing for part two.
Which luckily for me is open in the tab next to this one.
And I started with part three.
but this great advice.
as you knew already
big hugs
thank so much :-)
really appreciate it
and happy if you could take something away from it also
Energy.
beam me up!
I think Steemit is a great platform to build relationships, I know money is involved but unlike Facebook i feel more comfortable, since in FB you want get a chance to meet people in other countries unless you have a good network . but in my case I have FB friends who are ether my college friends, work place friends or relatives that's it.
But in steemit you will get to know amazing people who are very kind enough to go through our post and comment us.
I think this works best for me.
Please excuse my English.. still I am not perfect with it.
Thanks friend @flipstar
Be connected....
no worries your English seems to be very good and I am no native speaker also :-)
Well I actually think at this stage steemit and facebook are totally different. Facebook I use for my real life friends and stay connected with people I meet while I travel. I can write pms, make apointments and share sensless shit if I like.
Steemit is a way to express myself in a way I would have problems doing on Facebook. Here I behind a little behind my anonymity which can be liberating and more open. Also I want to share soemthing of value. Where on Facebook I dont care so much. I dont give status updates here or anything.
Also as money can be earned for the consumer and creator it becomes a bit differnt imo.
yes.. i agreed with you, FB is for connecting your friends and family
Steemit gives you a value for your effort.
Full 100% and resteemed :-)
thank you!
I read this book! I love it! :) Steemit is a good place to practice what you learned in that book too... love you you made real life examples out of it with Steemit! awesome post.
thank you :-)
I have started this book a while ago but never finished it or put it into practice, so I think this will be a good place to learn.
I would say so! You are doing it well already 😊
:-)
I think there is still a lot of room to grow for me.
