The good, the bad and.........Meow

This is a childrens book i have been trying to write for a good few years but ive never written anything before and im a big lump of a mechanic with no literature skills whatsoever so its a work in progress. I had the idea of writing a bit of a story for my little niece, she is 3 now and im hoping posting this will give me the impetus to actually attempt to write a chapter, let me know what you think, it is supposed to be aimed at dads for bedtime reading with the first book wild west themed, ive even thought about a second book with a war theme to it but im getting ahead of myself as id be proud if i actually wrote just 1 chapter, im rubish lol, anyway read on and i hope you enjoy the introduction.

INTRODUCTION

Kiris kingdom is a story set in the Wild West back streets of a Lancashire town in England and follows the adventures of 2 rival gangs of cats and their struggle for supreme power.

Our intrepid hero Kiri became leader of a rebel band much by accident when he vanquished his arch enemy Colin, Colin had ruled the entire street with an iron fist and had bullied Kiri and many of the street cats for many years but as Kiri got older and Colin became elderly a transfer of power became inevitable, the street was divided in an epic battle where every character was forced to make a decision where their loyalties lied.

Kiri, a Bengal cat without any pedigree was rescued from a cat sanctuary when he was young, his humans are an overly excited couple with hearts of gold but easily led astray and in constant need of looking after by Kiri to keep them on the straight and narrow, they have recently taken in 2 kittens that have been abandoned by their next door neighbour; Mrs Kittens, a disturbed woman who loves kittens but hates cats and will abandon them when their cuteness runs out, many of the cats and strays within Kiris Kingdom have been victims and abandoned by Mrs Kittens.

Kiri now has control of the entire lower side of the street while Colin has still regained control of the upper side of the street and there is an uneasy truce which could boil over at any instance and both gangs need to be vigilant to hold on to power. Although Kiri has control of some prime real estate he has completely lost control of his own home, since his humans have taken in the terrible duo Bonnie and Clyde; the kittens abandoned by Mrs Kittens, Kiris world has been turned upside down, Bonnie is a feisty and very clever white and brown tortie and idolises kiri, much to his distain and will do everything in her power to be close to kiri even to the point of hating Kiris love interest; the cat with no name! Bonnie’s partner in crime is Clyde, a very fuzzy bouncy kitten with all black fur and piercing eyes, he just follows Bonnie everywhere.

Kiris Kingdom is a large area consisting of 50 back yards including Mrs Kittens and evil cat hater, Mrs Biscuit’s a loveable eccentric woman who feeds all the local strays, the OK Kabab shop on the corner which is a favourite place for all the street cats to congregate looking for a free meal, and the bottom wreck with a swing, slide and climbing frame and a small garden, keeping control of such a lavish kingdom is a full time job for our hero Kiri.

By contrast Colin has been banished to his much reduced kingdom on the upper side of the street which only has 20 back yards including Sasha the cat hating Alsatians, a car repair garage and some waste land, Colin will surely be plotting ways to vanquish Kiri and regain control of the entire street which he believes his rightfully his.

Kiri is aided in his adventures by his loyal team, there is Mangy a local stray, he was abandoned by Mrs Kittens a long time ago and never found a new home, he is quick witted loveable hero and offers his most staunch support of Kiri, his best friend. There is Rag Tag, a full pedigree Persian that does not have the appearance of such, a scraggly creature in need of a hair brush, Rag Tag is Mrs Biscuit’s cat and guards the free biscuit saloon from all pretenders. Robbie aka Scratchy joined Kiri during the “epic” battle and aided to vanquish Colin, Scratchy believes Kiri to be needed in keeping good order but Robbie’s best friend is a member of Collin’s gang so his loyalties may be in question. That leaves Flash; a cat that knows his own mind, Flash only speaks in his own language and doesn’t hang around long enough to question, gained his name Flash for his super speeds.

Collins gang are older and have been round the block, Colin is short tempered and will gladly put anyone in their place with a swift attack, but Collins best years are behind him and he relies on his loyal followers to hold on to the little power he still regains. Collins side kick is Dinky, don’t be fooled by his name, dinky was the original Mrs Kittens abandoned cat and found refuge in the local car repair garage, Dinky has had a hard life and become a super monster of an animal, a huge cat that lost an eye and is feared by the entire street, cats, humans and even Sasha the dog fears Dinky but Dinky is misunderstood and still retains his friendship with Scratchy due to their love of cars or more importantly the warm car bonnets which is why Robbie got his nickname Scratchy.

Other members of Collins gang are Boo a blank faced strange coloured cat, Boo got his name from just appearing from out of nowhere and with no sound and them disappearing just as quick and that just leaves Carrots: an all ginger cat that thinks it’s a dog, too happy to be a cat, too excited to be a cat too dog to be a cat and too hungry to do anything other than be a cat, To say Carrots is excitable would be an understatement. Carrots has a brother called Chester but he is always missing , Chester has a habit of getting lost and everyone is always on the lookout for Chester, if where’s Wally was a cat then where’s Chester would be Wally but Chester.

There are many other characters in this wild west themed saga, as well as the already mentioned Mrs Kittens and Mrs Biscuit’s and Kiris strange humans there is; the cat with no name, a sort of love interest of Kiri, an all-black and mysterious cat with a yellow collar that turns up and torments our hero in a playful way and always happy to point out Kiris failings. The Wolpertinger is a very strange creature, a rabbit believed to be over 300 years old, he lives in a back yard in Kiris Kingdom between Kiris yard and Mrs Biscuit’s, an overgrown messy yard that fills most visitors with fear, the Wolpertinger has seen everything, he knows everything and he has been everywhere. And there is Doppleganger, a cat that looks exactly like Kiri and plays up the fact, everybody is fooled by the Dopleganger except Colin who it at a loss to see why everyone else thinks he looks like Kiri.

Each story brings the old Wild West into a modern tale of gang warfare and land battles with a dry humour and a love story all rolled into one epic struggle for our hero as he retains control and expands his kingdom, this is Kiris kingdom and you will hear him Meow!

Carrots - Ginger cat brother of and eater of Chester’s food, always far too overexcited
Chester - Chester is always missing and his humans are always putting up posters
