Flood by Stephen Baxter

Flood by Stephen Baxter. I found it a little difficult to care about the character in the beginning as I felt there were a bit too many for me to get a handle on, by the end the personalities are fleshed out and it's a solid book, though how the characters seem to keep bumping into each other seems very contrived.
