#1 Crypto trip - Digital Artists Online - Bitcoin Book Bubble Burst

in #book6 years ago (edited)

Back in mid December 2017, with my extraordinary knack for bad timing, missing the boat, I decided it was time to "look into" Bitcoin, yes, right when the price was peaking.

This and following posts will describe my adventure into the Cryptocurrency world.

Just to put things in perspective, I am an engineer, nearing 60 years old (ever heard of a slide rule?), definitely not a techie, though have worked with spreadsheet calculations, also being from the north of England have a strong preference for not actually spending any money!

Coincidentally I was looking for a book to read over Christmas, after a bit of searching I happened on "earn rewards for reading classic books" at Paid Books, perfect get bitcoins for a leisure activity!

So off I went, straight into Pride and Prejudice, after a few pages, reCAPTCHA, got 80sat reward, WOW, great. Just keep reading and reCAPTCHAring and I'll be rich. Before even Mr Darcy had arrived on the scene, I realised that you didn't have to actually read to get the reward, just wait 5 minutes.

But what is a Sat?
How many zero's after the point!
Is that all its worth!
My patience ran out.

Paid Books ties into Digital Artists Online (DAO) to store your rewards, create an account, here you will find links to other sites on which you can also earn rewards for doing the activity or for simply waiting for the clock to count down and reCAPTCHAring. These are:-

Paid Books rewards for reading books ~80 BCHsat 5 min timer.
Tubers.Tv rewards for watching videos ~120 BCHsat10min timer.
Blockchain Stats rewards for checking info ~60 BCHsat 5 min timer.
Game of Weight Loss rewards for slimming tips ~80 BCHsat 5 min timer.
Dalien Games rewards for playing games ~110 BCHsat10min timer.
A Bit of News rewards for reading news ~60 BCHsat 5 min timer.

After a several hours of no-braining I had accumulated 25000BCHsat, ok so lets send it to Coinbase as instructed by DAO. Not yet, minimum payout is 106000BCHsat, that means a day or two of mindless reCAPTCHAring. Being a completeness freak, I had to see it through to payout time, at which point I noticed comments on DOA site that they were looking for an alternative payout method to Bitcoins at Coinbase! Then comments saying not paying out due to high cost, more recently rewards and payouts have switched to BitCOINCASH. Anyway my first requested payout was successful, so the 5000 mouse clicks it took to earn 0.00127825 BCH was not Scam fodder.

Conclusion: I didn't read Pride and Prejudice and there has got to be a more efficient way to get free Cryptocoins

In retrospect: I would later find out DAO is a relatively efficient faucet, simple reCAPTCHA's, no adds, no popups and reasonable payout value.
