Running with the Wolves is book 1 in J E Reed’s The Chronopoint Chronicles and has been dubbed as Ready Player One meets The Hunger Games and certainly lived up to the hype; book 2, Rise Of The Wolves, continues the momentum from book 1 and definitely does not disappoint!

There is a lot of violence in this book; a lot! But then, that is the nature of the world that Kiuno and her friends find themselves in - kill or be killed...

Where book 1 spanned a journey of five realms, book 2 only spans two realms, but this does not impact the story in any way; a perilous, unknown journey of this magnitude is sure to be fraught with danger and betrayal.

Character growth has been phenomenal across this series and Kiuno is incredible! Fighting for her life, and her sanity, on an almost daily basis, has clearly taken its toll on her; she rushes headfirst into danger, reckless and impatient; she puts other peoples needs before her own, often to her detriment; not knowing who to trust, or being betrayed by those she trusted, pushes her to revenge...

Although, if I were in her place, facing the same things she has to, I'd probably be exactly the same, lol.

Jessica's writing is simply engaging; the way she plays out the battles and describes the fight scenes; how she created an army that combines magic with non-magic, magic with magic to create interesting and beautiful (and DEADLY) battle styles and combinations is simply exquisite; the heartbreak, betrayal and loss; the plethora of twists and turns that keep things fast-paced and interesting.

And that ENDING!!!! Book 3 cannot come soon enough!

The Chronopoint Chronicles is shaping up to be an epic series in all, filled with danger, monsters, battles, magic, heartbreak, joy, loss, more battles, betrayal, love, hate, possession, more battles... Rise Of The Wolves is a highly enjoyable and exciting read!!
