Change is always possible

As I submit this story I'm living in Hanoi, Vietnam. I came to Vietnam so I could teach English. This has been a major step of faith considering how I grew up with a speech impairment. But I'm not here today to write about overcoming a speech problem. Perhaps I can write about overcoming a physical problem at a later time. Right now I want to write about a story we all have in common. We all either had addictions or currently we are going through a problem of addiction. I realize the word "addiction" has a rather strong meaning. We all tend to think of problems that make the news such as alcohol, drugs, and pornography. But addictions don't have to be some big and overt. They could also be smaller such as spending too much time on the internet, or watching too much sports. Maybe as parents an addiction could be focusing all our time and energy into being a parent that we forget about the One who allowed us to be a parent.

I feel like there would be many such addictions in my life that I could write about. I could talk about how much of my life has been focused on trying to find a marriage partner to such an extent that my faith has been lacking at times. I'm sure everyone has a story about how our problems of not being content has caused us times of deep regret.

In my book I discuss the problem of addiction and a simple way to overcome the addiction. It's not enough to convince ourselves that drugs are wrong or how we are spending too much time on the internet. We need to replace the temporary desire we think will fulfill us with a better desire. Those earthly minded will have what they think a better desire happens to be, but for those who are thinking more on a spiritual level, know there is only One that can satisfy our longings. But the problem is how do we view God? My book looks into submitting to a God that is worthy to be loved and not the one I have seen develop in a typical American believer on Sunday.

Below is a link to my book. Please give my book some serious thought. The money will help me to stay in Vietnam and be a witness to the people I have grown to love.
