Spring has welcomed my bonsai collection to new life.

In this post, I'll be sharing an overview of my #bonsai collection, on the first weekend that I noticed the #buds were starting to open. Nearly all of my trees are showing signs of putting out new #leaves.

Obviously, all photos are original works. Most of these #trees have been grown from #cuttings, #seed, or rescued from places where it would have otherwise been destroyed. A few of them were also donated or purchased.

Please enjoy.

A few days later, Maple #2 has pushed out the first leaves.
It looks shiny because I applied a layer of petroleum jelly, to monitor its effects.

Ultra close-up, Maple #2. Leaf stems start out in a trident shape, with a central leader, and two side leaves. This can be fun for bonsai, because it offers choices. By trimming the central leader, buds will form behind it, to make new leaf stems. The central leader can be maintained to lengthen the branch, and bend it into a curved shape with soft wire before it hardens.

May you have an extra spring in your step this week.

What do you hope to achieve with the petroleum jelly on the maple? You applied it to the bark? I'm intrigued

Good question. @steamdan was chatting with me about it on discord, as a method for helping branches and trunk to grow. He has had amazing success on avacado trees and citrus in a blistering hot climate. The theory is that the moisturizing effect will help budding, fruiting, and increase the vigor on the affected areas. It can even cause it to thicken.

I have never tried it before, so we'll see what happens. I also put it on my apple trees I recently grafted, so I hope it helps the sap to feed the new scions. Sometimes I lose the bare rootstock after planting, or the scion because it dries out or rots.

My avocado tree sounds like it could use some petroleum jelly on its trunk! It has some damage that it's recovering from.

Great collection, lovely to see things budding.

Your collection is fabulous! It's so interesting to see them coming to life! I hope you do a post later when they are all leafed out.

Certainly will. Thanks for visiting.

Your photography is great. It is truly worth appreciating. Trees are the best friends of the people. They benefit us in various ways. So we should use them properly. I appreciate your work. I thank you for sharing the pictures with us. I hope You will share a better picture with us in the future.

Hooray, Spring! So many trees? Wondering how you display them. I've always thought of one single bonsai tree on a desk or something, not as many as you have. Do they all stay outside?

Yes, all of these are outdoor trees.

Tropical plants and trees are usually what you might find as an indoor desk ornament.

Outdoor trees usually need full sun and the cold season to go through a period of dormancy to rest from the growing season.

Ok. Glad the sun's coming out for them!

This is so amazing!! Thank you for posting this, I am drooling over your collection! Incredible green thumb on you! I love the tulips too <3 #bonsaimaster

Great collection - wish I could help with identifying some of the unknowns but sadly, I have no clue. On a side note, thanks for the continued support on my blog - seems I get 0.67$ each time you upvote my posts. Thanks for that.

You bet. I used to have votes worth a few dollars, but my delegation lease ran out, and became too expensive to renew at the current steem price. Hopefully that will change in a few months, and I'll be tossing mega-votes out like a dolphin again.

I try to support you and the others who are posting bonsai content especially, because many people are looking for articles and images of bonsai trees, and how to get started, and there isn't very much content on steemit yet. Even the search doesn't work well, and some of the best posts just disappear unless you know which accounts to scroll through. The best way for me to help build up the bonsai community is to continue to post and reward others who are releasing fresh content, as that also leaves a back-trail to find our older posts, and draws more viewers to participate here.

Keep it up @imagendevoz. You created #teambonsai, and the rest of us have been flying with it ever since. I really like your animal photos too, especially exotic birds in their habitat.

Thanks for the amazing feedback - I'll try and keep up with the bonsai related content. Wish I could speed up the germination of the Chinese Blue Wisteria. I do have some bad news regarding one of the seeds though - seems it has begun to rot but for fear of ruining it, I've left it to do it's own thing and see what happens as I've never grown one of these. I've noticed what appears to be sprouts on one of the seeds so that's some good news. On another side note: What do you mean your delegation became too expensive? I've taken to converting all my Steem to Steem Power - is this something that eventually runs out?

Nope. You are fine converting to SP. Everyone should do that when starting out, because those small amounts have exponential gains in the beginning.

I like to purchase an additional SP delegation lease from @blocktrades. The price for making this purchase fluctuates. In December I started buying thousands and thousands worth of additional SP, as it only cost about 100 SBD to lease for 90 days. Now, the same leases costs hundreds. Without the additional delegation boost, I have to rely mostly on the SP I accrued into my account.

It is still good, because I have about 300 more SP to my account, even though I haven't earned as much in SBD's in these past months. I started earning a lot more from curating than I do from posting.

Cool - thanks for the info. I try and make a habit of upvoting great content that's original and I've found that I earn a little here and there for doing that. Can't wait until my vote starts counting for something - it'd be great to give back especially since Steemians have been so kind to date.

Amazing! You've put a lot of time into your bonsai collection over the years I can see. Interesting species you are working with.. some of them I see around me every day like doug fir and maple. How fun to see them miniaturized! Thanks for the tour :)
