Aamir was not known for studies in school but he somehow completed the twelfth grade from Narsee Monjee College. Most of the stars seemed to have a good and relaxed life during their growing up days but, not Aamir Khan. He rather had tough days due to the financial problems faced by his family.

At the age of sixteen, he was involved in a clandestine shooting of a 40 minute silent movie 'Paranoia' directed by his school friend. The shooting was kept as a secret; as Aamir's parents did not want him to work in films. Instead, they wanted him to concentrate on studies. So to learn the art, he started working for a theatre group called Avantar as a backstage artiste for more than a year. Later, he made his onstage debut in a Gujarati play, 'Kesar Bina' and followed it up by working in two Hindi plays and one English play. Filmography & Acting Career
1984- 1994: Debut to Successes and Failures

Aamir Khan took the first step towards his career in performing arts by acting in documentaries directed by the students of FTII, Pune. He got lucky when director Ketan Mehta noticed him and took him in his experimental film 'Holi'. Although the movie failed to garner some good audience, Aamir's performance was noticed by Nasir Hussain. His son Mansoor Hussain then cast him in his directorial debut 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. Thus, Aamir made his Bollywood debut with a commercial success in the year 1988. The movie swept the award functions and was a craze among the youth. Over the years, the movie has become one of the most loved movies of all time. In the same year, he was seen in a romantic comedy 'Love Love Love' which was a commercial failure.

In the year 1989, Aamir Khan was seen in the crime movie 'Raakh' where critics loved the movie and his performance but, the movie was not successful at the box office. His performances in both movies, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' and 'Raakh' earned him National recognition and thus a star Aamir Khan was born. With the speed at which he achieved success, he also saw failures. In the following year, Aamir Khan had five releases and four of them failed to give Aamir a hit. Dejected, Aamir had not pinned much hope on his last movie of the year 'Dil'. But things changed when the movie became a superhit and was a rage among the youngsters during that time. He followed it with yet another hit 'Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin' in the year 1991.

1995- 2001: The Success Ladder Is Not So High

For the next half a decade, Aamir Khan appeared in movies where his acting skills were put to test. Movies such as 'Rangeela'(1995) gave a different Aamir after a long time. The rugged and typical road side, small time goon like look and brilliant acting won hearts of his fans. At that time, Aamir made a conscious decision to work in only one or two movies at a time. He started this trend and still follows it. In the subsequent year, Aamir gave a superb performance in the movie 'Raja Hindustani' which won him his first Filmfare Best Actor award. For the next few years, Aamir Khan was seen in movies which were a moderate success at the box office. So from 1997 to 1999, his movies such as 'Ishq', 'Ghulam' and 'Sarfarosh' were good when it came to acting but did moderate business. However, his first movie of the millennium, 'Mela' bombed at the box office.

In the year 2001, Aamir Khan gave two of his biggest hits, 'Lagaan' and then 'Dil Chahta Hai'. In both these movies, he played different and contrasting characters, that of a villager in 'Lagaan' and an uptown guy in 'Dil Chahta Hai'. The movie 'Lagaan' went on to be nominated at the Oscars under the Best Foreign Language Film category and swept the awards season in India. Along with that, his portrayal as a villager and his performance in 'Lagaan' gave him his second Filmfare Best Actor award. On the other hand, 'Dil Chahta Hai' was loved by people of all ages.

Aamir Khan kept up his success streak with some good and quality movies such as 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar' in the year 1992 and 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' in the year 1993. His acting was pretty good and he was improving with every movie. Aamir was also seen in 'Andaz Apna Apna' which did not get good reviews during that time but, now has a cult status. Thus, after a good debut and a slew of flops, Aamir Khan established himself as an actor capable to perform in different types of movies.

The movie in some way or the other had a lasting impression in the minds of the youngsters.

The character chameleon, Aamir Khan, also showed his marketing skills during the promotional tours and activities for the above two movies. He showed to each and everyone in the industry that when it comes to performing different kinds of roles which require him to mould himself and his looks accordingly, he is game for it.

In the year 2012, he was seen in the movie 'Talaash' which was a hit but, not as much as his previous two movies.
