Flipping the boat

in #boats7 years ago

Well the last few weeks have been occupied by the painting of the bottom. Roll on a coat and wait till the next day. I painted the bottom up to the approximate waterline with a black topside paint (no need for an ablative bottom paint for a trailered boat). After four coats I was ready to flip her over. 7A08EE30-22E6-44FA-810F-63733B10827B.jpeg

Many ideas were tossed about in an effort to solve the problem of turning the boat over without damaging the boat, needing many people, altering the workshop or spending money. I finally settled on a simple solution. I hoisted each end of the boat up enough to trim the stem and stern posts shorter and install casters. After that, rolling the boat out into the front yard was a cinch. A few hands were charting in the street who kindly agreed to assist with the rolling of the boat, all of which took about twenty seconds. Next I removed the casters and used them to build dollies for each end and lifted he boat onto them with the help of a 2x8 lever. Success.
