We had a new game come to the table the other night. It's a card drafting, set building game called Villagers. The idea is that you collect workers for your village and build chains of workers that build on top of each other. For example, a Graper (which supplies the grapes) lets you play a Vintner (which makes the wine), which let's you play a Wine Trader. And if you have a Glass Blower (to make the bottles), it makes it easier to play the Wine Trader.

The hard part is that there are lots of different types of villagers, and not all of them are in each game, so you don't know if you'll even be able to get the cards that you need. You need to make sure you're adapting your strategy continually as the game progresses. In the game the other night, I played a Hayer, but wasn't able to get any other cards to play on top of it. So I had to abandon that particular chain.

Playing the villagers gives you gold, and whoever has the most gold at the end of the game wins.

The gold pieces that came with the game are wood, which is nice. And the box insert has specific spaces marked for each type of card. The design of the components was really well thought out.

The artwork is pretty unique. It's got a light, cartoonish vibe, but still evokes a Chaucer-esque aesthetic. Just don't look too closely into their eyes, or you'll get creeped out.
