Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim, the current Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor is rumoured that he had tendered his resignation.

The resignation is speculated due to the land sale to BNM to pay off some of the debts of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Foreign media already speculated the successor, non other than former BNM deputy governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus.

Reuters newsflash tipped Nor Shamsiah as the strongest candidate since she was involved in strengthening the banking system policies during the Asian financial crisis.

Nor Shamsiah left the central bank in November 2016 and currently working at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The central bank has yet issues any statement or comment on Muhammad's possible departure.
