PREPARING ANOTHER SHUFFLE ZONE
As Father Time continues to tick I realize that sooner or later the Blueberry patch I love to frequent may become impossible to get to. I am not talking about right now, but there will come a time when the 1/2 mile trek will be physically impossible to make. Over the past 20 years, with most projects I have undertaken at the farm I have taken into considered getting older. With that said I, in this blog I will take a very small piece of ground by Bobby's Bunk House and transform it into a Blueberry Patch that will fall into the category Shuffle Zone. Shuffle Zones on the farm should allow me to continue to navigate the outdoors until I am 100, after that who cares.
The area is almost ready for planting. Prior to planting I tested the PH of the existing site and the new one and they were exactly the same. Blueberries need a rather acidic soil, between 5 and 6.5. Both plots were right around 6.0, perfect.
Digging up the plants was easier than expected. I tried to get as big of a root ball as possible. Most plants that I carried down the trail weighed about 30 lbs. I transplanted 13 plants and split that part of the job into two days. Great workout as the round trip back to the bike was about 1/2 mile.
With planting completed it is time to hay.
Blueberry Shuffle Zone complete. We should be able to pick until we can't pick no more.
Hope you enjoyed. thanks thebigsweed.
