I BELIEVE GOD
“Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will
be just as it was told me.”
Acts 27:25 (NKJV)
READ: Acts 27:9–38
This piece is sequel to what was shared in verse 24 of this same Acts chapter 27. Someone whose presence would be considered by God to shield or protect other people around him at the time of
danger should be a believer who is faithful in his walk with God (Genesis 18:22–26). For God to consider sparing Paul’s life, and in addition the lives of those who were on board with him; it means Paul’s relationship with God was at top-notch.
Now:
• What is your relationship with God like?
• Can God, through your presence in a place, avert evil or an impending danger?
If Paul had no good relationship with God, he would not have been considered for God’s mercy, favour, and help. Moreover, the people on board with him would have had no privilege of being spared alive, even when they had earlier disrespected his counsel
which told them not to proceed with the journey (Acts 27:10). That time of the year was not good enough for any voyage; sailing was considered to be dangerous (Acts 27:9). The people were told by Paul not to sail, that the journey would end with disaster and much
loss, but the people proceeded anyway.
You can also make your life count for God. If you live right, in line with God’s Word, and you are fruitful in the kingdom; your life would count for God. When danger is looming, if you are present there and you may be involved; such danger would be averted because of you:
“SINCE YOU WERE PRECIOUS IN MY SIGHT, YOU HAVE BEEN HONOURED, AND I HAVE LOVED YOU; THEREFORE
I WILL GIVE MEN FOR YOU, AND PEOPLE FOR YOUR LIFE.”
Isaiah 43:4 (NKJV)
17 “THEY SHALL BE MINE,” SAYS THE LORD OF HOSTS, “ON THE DAY THAT I MAKE THEM MY JEWELS. AND I WILL SPARE THEM AS A MAN SPARES HIS OWN SON WHO SERVES HIM.
18 THEN YOU SHALL AGAIN DISCERN BETWEEN THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED, BETWEEN ONE WHO SERVES GOD AND ONE WHO DOES NOT SERVE HIM.”
Malachi 3:17,18 (NKJV)
The benevolence—acts of kindness—of God that is being talked about here is always made available for those who have made themselves dear to Him through their faithfulness and steadfastness.
God loves all His children, every believer who comes to Him through
Christ Jesus. However, some are more endeared to His heart than others. Even among the disciples of Christ Jesus, some among them were closer to Him than others. Peter, James, and John were always with Him (Matthew 17:1,2; Mark 5:37,40; John 13:22–24).
You can make yourself God’s friend through your loyalty and faithfulness (Genesis 18:17–21; Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23). Unwavering commitment, total submissiveness, obedience, loyalty, and faithfulness are all good attributes that can put you in a special place in God’s heart. Thus, be serious in your relationship and communion with God!
Reflect:
• Does your life count for God in such a way that others around
you are blessed by your presence?
• What does your relationship with God look like right now?
• Are you faithful or inconsistent in it?
Peace.
