HOW TO CHOOSE MY NICHE?

The mistake that most beginners make is choosing their niche randomly and later getting tired of it, eventually closing their blog. Choosing the right niche is one of the most important factors that anyone intending to become a blogger has to consider. Before you choose a blog niche, there are some key factors that you need to consider;

  1. YOUR GOALS

Blogging is more than a side hustle, it's a business that would only yield good results when taken seriously. To become a successful blogger, you need to set up some goals for yourself. You don't want to start blogging without any goals or expectations. A goal is the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. So when you choose a niche, there have to be some goals and results which you intend to achieve within a given period. When considering your goals, you need to also consider your budget. I will elaborate on this later but for now, I want you to know that your budget could be any amount within your financial capacity. What you can't achieve through spending, you can make up for that by posting quality content.

  1. IS MY NICHE OVER-SATURATED?

You must consider if the niche you are choosing is already over-saturated. News and entertainment blogs are some of the over-saturated niches right now. To succeed in these niches, you need either be exceptionally good or have a loaded pocket for sponsored ads. You must make your research before choosing a niche, considering if the niche is too competitive or not. If you go into an over-saturated niche, you will have to compete with blogs that have more experience and financial capacity. The less competition, the better for you. Competing with a blog that already gets millions of daily views is definitely not the right choice to make.

  1. SEARCH VOLUME

This might be a little bit technical for you if you don't know about analytics. You need to ensure that your niche gets enough search volume. In layman's terms, ensure that people constantly search for content related to your niche. Your goal is to create contents that would bring lots of traffic to your blog. To analyze your keywords, you can use websites like Semrush or Google analytics. Keyword analysis is not as difficult as you think, you can visit these websites, put your keywords into their search bar and analyze their search volume.

  1. CAN I GET ENOUGH TOPICS?

What you don't want to experience, is running out of topics to post on your blog. You need to choose a niche in that you have a good knowledge of how to generate your content. I will write about how to generate blog content later in this course. You shouldn't choose a niche just because you have been able to generate one interesting piece of content, it takes way more than having just one good content to run a blog.

  1. CAN I GENERATE EVERGREEN TOPICS?

One of the reasons why I don't like news blogs is that your topics die within a short period. Today's current news is tomorrow's old news. You need to pick a niche where you can generate topics that will remain evergreen. This will help you a lot because you won't need to post daily. Once you've posted enough content in your blog, you can decide to post three times a week and your blog will still keep getting enough traffic. To be a good blogger, you need to have a creative mind. Your level of creativity will greatly affect the kinds of topics that you can generate.

  1. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS I CAN MONETIZE MY NICHE?

Monetizing your blog is the number 1 priority of every blogger. There are so many ways to monetize your blog but it greatly depends on the content that you post on your blog. Some Niches have only one or two ways of getting monetized, while there are others than can be monetized in so many ways. You need to understand the different ways your niche can be monetized before choosing it. Monetization is a broad topic that will be discussed later in this course. So many people only rely on adverts to make money from blogging, but there are so many more ways that your blog can be monetized.

  1. BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR NICHE

It would be a terrible mistake if you pick a niche that you do not understand. Although, you can always research to learn more about your niche. It's necessary that you have a basic understanding of the blog niche that you intend to choose. You can learn more about your niche as time goes on, but you need to have the least basic understanding of your niche.
After choosing the right niche, you need to make research and know the key factors you need to sustain your blog within that niche. Go online, and check reviews from other bloggers who have been running their blogs in your niche before you. There are many things you could learn from them.

  1. CROSSCHECK

Go through all the factors you have considered, just to be sure that you are not missing anything. Remember that once you’ve started posting within the niche of your choice, it would be very difficult to change your niche. So take your time to crosscheck all the listed factors before deciding whether you have made the right choice or not.
