The Lindy Effect and the perishability of your blogging
Lindy Effect:
a theory of the life expectancy of non-perishable things that posits for a certain class of non-perishables, like a technology or an idea, every additional day may imply a longer (remaining) life expectancy: the mortality rate decreases with time.
Reading a great blog yesterday, I couldn't help wondering the impact on my blogging on SteemIt. It is a totally new unknown destination that we all are on. But if the effect is real, then we can rest assured that we will be posting content for another day. ;)
We know that the payout of our content is perishable, but the content is forever.
What is the value of our content after the payout? It is in the network that it helps us bridge to the internal to the external world. This small piece of content can help us create a brand that increases followers and increases payout for future content.
As posited by the above blog post,
However far you are, you can probably double it.
So if you're blog posts have a payout of $0.01, then it should be doable to increase to $0.02. You have doubled your payout. You, of course are asking, "But I want $1.00! How can I really increase my payout?".
There is one simple answer: Innovation. If it takes one hour to make 1 cent, then pretty much you need to spend two hours to make 2 cents. In order for you to make a dollar you will have to spend 100 hours. Is this scalable and sustainable? I don't think so. But if you could innovate to the point of it taking two minute per post then all you have to do is spend two hours and you have made your $1.00.
I will leave you with a question. What is the cost of acquiring a follower and how much increase in payout is that follower?
