The Most Familiar Stranger (Original Poem):

Come to me in the breeze that blows on Sunday evenings out the back

In the sun that breaks through dawn and warms my face through all time’s creases and cracks

In the caress of a stranger whose body moved that inch too close to dare

In the birds that sing the lightest tone of understanding melodies

In the fine blades of grass and the rough bark of trees

In every song we’d ever scream, from AM to PM duets of stars and beams of light, we’d laugh with joy and weaken at the knees

In the spaces between light and dark

In the birth of each life which enters this world and fights its way through adversities

In the smiles that grace babies, children, adults and the elderly

In the flight of planes as they take off to adventures and arrive home to welcoming embraces

In the midst of a crowd leaning forward eager to absorb

In the blanket curled into when I cannot face the world

In the warmth of the tea that fills my body

In every set of soulful eyes I see

Want to know a secret?

You never really left, my love.
