5 Things I Will be Doing This Summer Holiday (And you should too!)

in #blog6 years ago

Hey guys!

Still not knowing when and where I will enroll into my new university, this summer break will be a long one for me. While most of us will take this opportunity to travel, I will spend most of my holiday with my mom at home. So I came out with a list of things to do to stay productive this summer.

1. Online course

I am quite nervous about starting my new semester in a new university, so the best way for me to get rid of my anxiety is to be prepared. I’ve been starting to start online courses to do some self-studying especially on topics that I’ve forgotten.

Khan academy is a great medium for me to revise Physics’ topics and to do some exercises for Maths. By doing so, I get to familiarize myself with the English terms again and also get my rusted brain to start working again.

I also came across www.edx.org that provide courses for engineering, architecture, art and etc. Some courses are free. I haven't tried out the other courses but I tried the Aeronautical Engineering course for a few weeks now. While I might not continue my studies in Aerospace Engineering, I am still interested in learning things related to aerospace engineering. So while I have some free time this summer, I will learn more about the course and hopefully I will be able to continue my Master’s in Aerospace Engineering. I can’t say much about the course in the website yet but so far I’m enjoying it!

2. Practice a foreign language

I’ve made a promise to myself to not lose my ability to speak German, so it is so important for me to keep practicing German. While there are a lot of medium to learn new languages online, I prefer listening to German podcast online because I can still do house chores while learning. Aside from that, Duolingo is another fun way to practice German.

Besides German, I’m also practicing Mandarin, Spanish and Korean on Duolingo. This may sounds a lot but using Duolingo makes it easy to practice since I can always practice them even when I’m going out with my mom.

3. Learn/improve new skills

Holiday is all about unwinding and relaxing, so of course I wont be spending most of my time studying. I will take some time to learn to develop other skills as well by going on Skillshare. Be it writing, drawing, editing or photography, Skillshare has so much to offer and I will take this opportunity to learn from it.

4. Read non-fiction books

I’ve been enjoying reading fiction books so much that now I think it’s time for me to expand my horizon and start reading non-fiction books. I’ve recently finished reading What If? By Randall Munroe and am currently reading 'Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future' by Ashlee Vance.

Hopefully by the end of my summer break, I will be able to read all of the non-fiction books I currently own and will be able to write reviews about them.

5. Decluttering/ Organizing the entire house

I recently just came back and realized that our house is full of stuff. My mom is a collector and refuse to throw things, even the broken ones. So it is my mission to clear some things out, convince my mom to throw broken things and give away things that we no longer use. This would be the hardest mission!

By creating a list of things to do this Summer, I hope I won’t be wasting a lot of time lazing around. And while setting a goal will give me more motivation to achieve more each day, I think I will not set a goal this time. Instead of stressing out to achieve the goal, I will just enjoy the process and see how much I can achieve.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I hope you like it and if you do, do poke the upvote button!!

OMG... None of the things you do involve outdoor activities like cycling, camping, traveling, BBQ with friends,.......

I cycled a lot during summer. Even summer gets very cold in Canada, it gets at high as 35C but down to 10C when it rains.... I love Canada during summer, expect the long hours of sunlight really gives me a headache

Ah true! But now that i'm back in Malaysia, it's quite hard for me to go out without parents nagging. So i prefer avoiding the nag but of course if there's friends around, i would love to go out with them.
These things are just for me to fill in my time if there's really nothing for me to do. But i just realized how horrifying it must be if i spend my whole summer doing only these things 😂😂😂
