What is A/B Testing?
A/B Testing: A method employed to compare different versions of digital ads or website landing pages in order to determine the efficacy and performance of each one. An A/B test for ads involves running at least two ads simultaneously, then analyzing data to see which one performs better. The objective is to target at least two mutually exclusive age, demographic or interest based audiences to test which group yields the most optimal results. The original ad is the "control" ad, and all others are "variable" ads. Here is an example:
For this ad, I can make a split test to see which audience profile would be more effective for conversion. Go to "Create Ads" on the dropdown menu on your Facebook. Select your objective and click "Create Split Test" at the bottom.
Select two different types of groups that you would like to target. For my example, I chose CEO's and small business owners because they are most likely to buy a website from me. Save this audience and create another test for the second audience.
Finally, remember to choose a long enough time period to ensure the split ads are gathering enough data. Facebook requires at least 3 days(and a large enough monetary bid) to ensure a proper split test or it will not run.
Once you are done, fill out the rest of Facebook's ad form with your format, images/video, our URL, etc. Make sure to come up with something very catchy and have a strategy for getting traffic to your website or converting new customers for your business. Once you are done with all of these, click "Confirm" and let it rip! #splittesting
