RE: My Mom Doesn't Like Steemit.
It's all in the timing...
It's a community in the making which will shift focus one way or another towards something else. Now it's all about cryptocurrency but maybe soon it'll be about funny things or even memes or whatever.
At first it's always a hype but that will die down once people understand this is just like any other (social)content website. People will focus on what the community likes and as of right now, nobody knows what most of us Steemit users like... except we all like cryptocurrencies.
With Facebook it was first all about getting as many 'friends' as possible. before it becoming something worth while. With Twitter it's all about the most retweets and/or followers. With Reddit it's about the 'karma'. Some people will stay in this and only focus on that, others are just there for the community as a whole. The latter one is the one you need and that needs growing and being out there as a whole, a group.
I'm certain Steemit will grow into that, but it needs time, it needs entrepreneurs that understand what makes a community... well a community. It needs people that are original and only care about making others laugh, cry, interested or anything else. Those people are here and there are many more on the way. Steemit needs 'leaders' in this and maybe isn't yet ready for the 'followers' that only consume.
If you want to know if Steemit is a place for your content. Just let it be a place for your content and be one of those 'leaders' instead of a 'follower' and shape Steemit to what you think is best. People will come and go as the community will take form and other websites will spawn from nowhere as another community needs a home.
The community shapes the websites, it's not the other way around. Keep that in mind.
Your thoughtful comment has renewed my faith in Steemit!
