Certainly the idea of ether has been nearly erased from the English language, or Western language even. It's harder to elaborate on an idea if that idea has no name to give it legitimacy, so the language just omits it. A decentralized source of power is suggested by such things as ether, and even a decentralized source of divinity is implied, so modern Science and the modern Church got rid of that Stuff!
