That is frightening to hear. I hope that things can remain stable, but I do not hold my breath..

Several months ago we were just 50 miles off the coast of venezuela at the island of caracao and I asked several of the locals about venezuela and if they had seen any issues being they were so close. The general concensus was that is was dangerous to go on a boat because pirates would get to you and that they were seeing them show up trying to take advantage of people on the island. They said it wasnt often but that it was a problem. This was several months ago. This stuff is for real and a major warning sign of what can happen.
I realize the situation that Venezuela is in and the banking/ political/ commodity issues that are associated with their crisis, but they really should adopt the US dollar. It obviously isn't a popular move; however, the amount of suffering in the country could be reduced at least temporarily.
Yep people in Venezuela are using the US dollar. Unfortunately its traded in the black market. A couple hundred US dollars will get you a duffle bag full of bolivares that will barely buy you a cup of Starbucks.
Venezuela adopting the US $ would mean adopting a dying currrency; "one step forward two steps back"! China, Russia and the Brics nations are already building their own monetary system... maybe backed by Gold, maybe backed by Bitcoin. Dave, I'm sure you will sooner than later be able to earn enough money with steemit to pay your food, cause people don't like to get censored and though there will be more turning their back on youtube and their GESTAPO-methods building a "3. Reich"!
Zooropa, your response is accurate; however, do you think it is possible with the western banks tactics? I can't imagine that it is easy for Venezuela to associate with BRICS nations.
You're absolutely right, esenca. The US will never allow any nation to step back from their world reserve currency hegemony; they will do everything to keep their system going; but they are getting weaker every day; China & Russia & India are hording Gold like crazy; Bitcoin and some other currencies are on the rise, because the Fiat monetary system is losing ground. The people will no longer bear the life diminishing conditions. Venezuela will spread around the world...
