April Blizzard On The Homestead
When we are supposed to be in Tshirts, we got a blizzard and got snowed in good. The normal temperatures around here for this time of year are 50 degree days and 30-40 degree nights. But nature turned things around on us this time.
I went out the day before and cut a bunch of fire wood out of the forest on our second property. We have 18 acres of wild, wooded land but its all pine. We burn an average Jack Pine tree every day or two. So I am out cutting fire wood all the time out here.
Since the blizzard was on its way, I went out and cut more this time. My wife Melanie came out to help get the logs out of the woods. Generally cutting a single Jack Pine up into logs takes a lot of work due to all the gnarly branches. So I needed help getting the logs out of the woods and onto the road before dark after cutting it all up.
Next I spent a while hauling the logs in a wheel barrow down the dirt road and next to the house. This was some hard work but I got six wheel barrow loads hauled in. Melanie stacked the logs while I hauled them in.

I also mentioned in the above video that we came quite close to losing it on the highway. A tie rod was coming apart on us but it fortunately waited until we got off the highway to really come apart. We managed to limp to my parents place and got it fixed though. I kept the tie rod because I have never seen one so loose before.
That night the snow started and it came down with a fury. It snowed all night and most of the next day. During breaks in the snow, we shoveled the place out a bit to reduce the amount of work it will be when the snow is all over.
We got about a foot of snow I figure but it was blowing away due to high wind so it did not build up that high in the open areas.

We just had a blizzard. Of course we are not planting yet.
I’ve had stuff in my greenhouse all winter, started my Tomatoes in Jan when it was well below freezing outside.
Mind you I do have it heated but my greenhouse has glass in it not an old tarp thrown over the top.
