  • Julian Assange was born on 2 July, 1971 in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia.

  • Father John Shipton was an Anti-war Activist and Mother Christine Ann Hawkins was a Visual Artist.

  • The couple got separated before Assange's birth, thus, he never met his Father until he was age 25. Interesting ! Isn't it ?

  • When Assange was 1 year old, his Mother married Actor Richard Brett Assange, the couple ran a small theatre company. They Divorced in 1982.

  • Later his Mother then got involved with Leif Meynell / Leif Hamilton, who was the member of Australian Cult The Family, by Leif Meynell she had a Son before the couple broke up in 1982. This is getting more interesting !

  • He had moved over 30 Towns in Australia in his childhood and had to attend 37 different schools, until Assange, his Mother and Half-Brother were settled in Melbourne, Victoria.

  • # Fact: Assange's Mother was not in the favor of formal schooling as she believed it could affect the curiosity and creativity of Assange.

  • He took admission in Central Queensland University (1994) and the University of Melbourne (2003–2006) to study computer programming, physics & mathematics , averaged D and dropped out to focus on WikiLeaks.

  • # Fact: Julian Assange was very intelligent in Mathematics but average in other subjects.

  • Assange got married with Teresa in 1989 and when he was only 18 years old he had already became a Father of a son Daniel Assange.

  • Assange got separated with his wife & disputed custody of their child.

  • He raised his son Daniel as a Single Father for over a difficult period of 14 years.

  • Daniel Assange is currently a Software Designer and lives most of the time in Sweden.

  • # Fact: In an open letter to François Hollande, France President , Julian Assange wrote that his youngest child lives in France with his mother. He also wrote that his family had received death threats and faced harassment because of his work, which forced them to change their identities and limited contact with him.

  • Julian Assange began hacking under the code name "Mendax" "meaning nobly truthful" with two others—known as "Trax" and "Prime Suspect"

  • And they formed a Hacking Group that they called the "International Subversives", in the year 1987.

  • Assange had hacked into the Pentagon and other U.S Department of Defense facilities, the U.S. Navy, NASA, and Australia's Overseas Telecommunications Commission, MILNET; Citibank,Motorola, Lockheed Martin,Xerox and Panasonic ; and the La Trobe University, Stanford University's SRI International and Australian National University.

  • # Fact: Julian was so expert in hacking that he was famously known as the Robin Hood of Hacking during the age of 16.

  • In September 1991, Julian Assange was revealed hacking into the Melbourne master terminal of Nortel, a Canadian multinational telecommunications corporation.

  • The Australian Federal Police tapped Julian Assange's phone line (as he was using a modem), and raided his home in October, and charged him with 31 counts of hacking related crimes in 1994.

  • Assange pleaded guilty to 25 charges (other 6 were dropped), and was ordered to pay reliefs of AUD 2,100 and released him on good behaviour bond, thus avoiding a heavier penalty resulting from his disrupted childhood, in December 1996.

  • # Fact: According to him, he's inspired by anti-stalinism instead of anarchy.

  • Julian Assange gave technical advice to Victoria Police -Child Exploitation Unit and helped with prosecutions, in 1993.

  • In 1993, he was also involved in starting the 1st Public Internet Service Provider in Australia known as the Suburbia Public Access Network.

  • Assange started programming in 1994, authoring/co-authoring the TCP port scanner strobe.c (1995),the Rubberhose deniable encryption system (1997), patches to the open-source database PostgreSQL (1996) and the Usenet caching software NNTPCache (1996); which reflected in growing his interest in Cryptography and Surfraw.

  • During this time, Assange also moderated the AUCRYPTO forum, ran Best of Security website that had about 5,000 subscribers "giving advices on Computer Security" in 1996 and contributed in the research to Suelette Dreyfus's Underground book on Australian Hackers,which included the International Subversives (1997).

  • In Sep 2008: WikiLeaks posted emails from Yahoo account of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

  • On Apr 5, 2010: WikiLeaks posted a video showing a US military helicopter firing on two journalists and few Iraqi civilians who got killed in 2007. Though the military claims that the helicopter crew suspected the targets were armed insurgents and not civilians.

  • On Jul 25, 2010: WikiLeaks posted approx 90,000 classified documents related to the War in Afghanistan.

  • On Aug 20, 2010: two female WikiLeaks volunteers alleged Julian Assange for sexual assault thus the Swedish Prosecutors issued an arrest warrant.

  • On Aug 21, 2010: Swedish Prosecutor's Office declares that it is canceling the arrest warrant against Julian Assange.

  • On Aug 31, 2010: Julian Assange is questioned and told of the charges against him by Stockholm Police

  • On Oct22, 2010: WikiLeaks posted classified military documents of the Iraq War.

  • On Nov 20, 2010: an arrest warrant against Julian Assange is issued by Stockholm Criminal Court.

  • On Nov 28, 2010: WikiLeaks starts posting diplomatic cables from US embassies. The site also stated that the documents will be released in stages over the next few months.

  • On Dec 7, 2010: Julian Assange turns himself in to London Authorities and was remanded in the custody.

  • On Dec 16, 2010: Julian Assange was released on bail and was kept on house arrest.

  • On Feb 24, 2011: a judge rules in support of Julian's extradition to Sweden. Thus, Julians's lawyers filed an appeal.

  • On Apr 24, 2011: WikiLeaks started posting classified military documents that included details on the behavior and treatment of detainees that were being held at the US Navy's detention facility located in Guantanamo Bay.

  • On Sep 2, 2011: WikiLeaks posts its archive of more than a 1/4 million of US diplomatic cables.

  • On Nov 2, 2011: WikiLeaks Appeals judges of the court in London rule in favor of Julian Assange being extradited to Sweden.

  • On Nov 15, 2011: UK Judicial Office announces Julian Assange has applied to take his appeal against extradition to
    Sweden to Supreme Court of UK.

  • On May 30, 2012: British Supreme Court denies Julian Assange's appeal against extradition to Sweden, but grants Assange a period of two weeks to file an appeal. Which was unusual as rulings are to be final.

  • On Aug 16, 2012: Ecuador announces that it has granted Asylum to Julian Assange.

  • On Aug 19, 2012: Julian Assange makes a public address from the balcony of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, demanding United States to drop its so called "witch-hunt" on WikiLeaks.

  • On Sep 26, 2012: Julian Delivers a speech via satellite to a full conference room at the UN, asking the US government to end its actions against him and WikiLeaks.

  • On Nov 2012: Assange wrote a book named "Cypherpunks: Freedom and the Future of the Internet," that got published.

  • On Feb 10, 2015: Bernard Hogan-Howe, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, tells LBC Radio that the operation guarding Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London is using their resources in as costs spiral to more than $15.3 million.

  • On May 11, 2015: Julian Assange's latest appeal to dismiss an arrest warrant for allegations of sexual assault is denied by The Swedish Supreme Court.

  • On Jul 3, 2015: Julian Assange's request for "protection" after he publishes an open letter in national newspaper Le Monde is rejected by France.

  • On Aug 13, 2015: Swedish prosecutors declare that they are dropping the allegations involving sexual assualt and coercion as statutes of limitations in the investigation was running out that month. Swedish prosecutors have said that the allegation of suspicion of rape still stands, and he may be investigated until 2020.
