History of surfing (lets do this dudes)

in #blog6 years ago

The art of surfing, known as he'enalu in the Hawaiian language, was first described in 1769 by Joseph Banks on HMS Endeavour during the first voyage of Captain James Cook

Today I was thinking of starting a new hobby. Turns out, fibre glass boards are way expensive. This is something that really interests me because it has all the elements from the sand to the wind. This must be a great way to let go and forget about the world for a while.

The first contest found place at Corona del Mar, California in 1928. This is still a new sport but I don’t think the Hawaiians ever thought much of what they were doing on the waves but if it wasn’t for surfing we would never have skateboards.

The skateboard was invented during the late 1940’s when a Californian man was looking for something else to do when there were no wave to ride and bam!!! We have the skateboard brah.

The record for the longest surf ride is 3 hours, 55 minutes, set by Panamanian surfer Gary Saavedra in 2011, riding an artificial wave created by power boat. This is just crazy, I can’t even stay out of the fridge for that long.

The most people to stand on one surf board is 47 and here is that clip for you, enjoy!!
