Memorial Day/Veteran's Day/Armed Forces Day

in #blog6 years ago

People have the best of intentions....

Today marks the day when veterans such as myself as well as active duty service members should (as well as must) correct civilians when they greet us with a hearty "Happy Memorial Day"!

I usually reply with a tactful, "Today is not my day.... Today is for those who didn't make it home...." I have found this to be the best receptive way of correcting their mistake without damaging relationships or without belittling the greeter. Below is a perfect info-graphic of the differences between our military holidays.

Again, almost all of those who would confuse any of these with each other are doing so out of good-hearted ignorance and not malice. As veterans we must retain our composure and politely correct them, even though this is how we feel....beating a dead horse.jpg
