The Greatest Marketing Experiment EVER ;)
Im a new blogger, so maybe you shouldnt take my findings too seriously, I dont have any findings yet.
I keep telling myself that with marketing ANYTHING can get a lot of attention. ANYTHING.
Now Im not selling anything here, just myself and my blog. But its no secret that blog writers want blog readers. It makes us feel all fuzzy inside to know that people are paying attention to what we are writing.
At the expense of loosing all of my friends and followers everywhere I think Ill pick one blog post that is really not all that helpful or entertaining and market the heck-a-doodles out of it.
Why? Because it sounds like fun. Maybe I am a nerd. LOL
Plus, I have 2 articles on this blog that are the most popular. I thought that maybe it was because they were my best articles, but realized that because I liked them, I pushed them more than any other article.
I dont know which article Ill pick, maybe Ill write a new one just for the purpose of marketing it. maybe Ill choose this one. That makes sense. At least then people will know what is going on.
Now that I have the article chosen I need a plan of attack. Later I hope that Ill have an article entitled How I Got Umpteen Bajillion Page Views on my Irrelevant Marketing Article and How You Can Too. But for now I dont have any such article.
Hmmm.my plan may not be all that great. Maybe some research is in order here. Nope, dont want to research, Ill just wing it with my very limited knowledge.
Plan of Action:
1. Twitter
Tweet this article 3 times a day everyday. Hey I really, really want to tweet it every hour, but am very frightened. Maybe Ill change my mind because I LOVE experimenting. Not sure how many days Ill do this.
Keep tweeting away just like I normally do. I am am avid tweeter, may be considered annoying by some but I just love the social interaction over there. I not only tweet my own blog posts, but I use it as a personal account too so I get to interact with lots of other moms. I also tweet lots of other blog articles that I read and love. I also follow a lot of people on a regular basis.
2. Facebook
Im not really on Facebook, well I sort of am. I dont really know how to use Facebook, but Ill post this on Facebook once per day. That sounds annoying. I think all I have to do is push the little f button down there. (Updated to say, I am more sort of on Facebook now, but still have no clue.)
I dont think putting this link on Facebook once per day is a good idea. Ill do it once and see how I feel about doing it again. I dont think Facebook works the same as twitter, but since I dont use FB I really dont know how it works.
3. Ummmm.my limited knowledge is failing me.
No bullet point needed but a lack of one would really crush my style.
4. Oh, Ive got it. Every time I comment on a blog post Ill link to this article.
Dont know if I can do this. It may kill me to be so brash. I comment on articles because I like them and I like the people writing them. If Im going to leave a link I want it to be relevant or at least linked to a good article. Ahhh!!
OK, Ive got it. If the comment form asks for a website I will put the direct link to this article, that way I am not outright putting this link into the comment.
:( I dont wanna. I want to be real. I may scratch this entirely.
5. Continue to talk to people who comment on my blog.
Something else I do anyway because it is fun. If someone comments on my blog I comment back and I usually go over and see their blog also and comment there.
6. Do some SEO stuff.
Dont know how to do SEO. I know a little about keywords and having good titles and stuff. I even know what a meta tag is, but dont know how or where to put one in blogger. Plus I dont like optimizing my articles with good titles, I like my titles.
I guess I have a lot to learn about SEO.
7. Keep everything I do free.
I dont have any money for this. Anyway wouldnt it be great to do a ton of marketing for free? And even if I dont get a ton of page views for this post it will be a fun experiment. I love fun experiments, they swim around in my head all the time just waiting to get out.
8. I think Ill need to have a baseline reading, so after this post goes up I will wait a day or a week before marketing it.
This will let me know how may people would visit it without any extra effort on my part.
Ill still write daily blog articles but I need a computer vacation anyway. I am sleep deprived and my kids wonder where I am, lol.
9. Keep track of what I do.
Man am I a marketing genius or what?
Keeping track of everything means that even if I dont have a solid plan I can see what Ive done and the effect it has had.
I am not sure if I am going to kill any chance of people actually following and liking my blog or if I will truly prove that marketing can make anything popular. Of course there is always the chance that people will be interested in this articlein that case Ill have to start over with an article that has no appeal whatsoever. Like an article about nothing. Very Seinfeld-esque. Darn, Seinfeld is popular. Whats a girl to do?
This article may be updated as I learn more, or as I chicken out.
What do you say? Will you still follow me on Twitter if I would post the same article every hour? Would that annoy you to the point of unfollowing? Does the fact that you know what Im doing change anything? Any marketing tips? I have no idea what Im doing but Im going to be true to my character and do it full force, lol.
P.S. I will still be writing everyday about whatever suits my fancy, so I guess this marketing effort wont really affect my current readers much at all.
P.P.S. I love the pic up there. I feel that way, but I dont really drink coffee. I have recently been overloading on Pepsi Max. I dont need any to do stupid things fast, but it does speed up the process. lol
P.P.P.S. Wow! Ive just been blogging about whatever is on my mind (and blogging seems to be at the forefront at the moment) Ive been wondering when I would actually start a project that I could blog about. :)
Excelent post, I share all my posts on fb and twitter. Also I normally share my links on steemit chat. I look forward to reading your future posts. You have a new follower now :)
Wow, thanks a lot! Yes, chat is very important too! Follow you )
