The Truth Behind the Existence of Giants

The bible, Greek mythology, and an abundance of ancient and historic pieces of literature are littered with stories of giants. It’s pretty hard to imagine an actual person standing at anything more than seven feet tall—at most. However, our world’s history tells us stories of men who have “calves as large as yard sticks” as one 1600s explorer wrote. Is there any truth to it, though? Has any evidence of giants actually been produced and properly documented, let alone backed by science? In this article, we’ll find out as we explore the truth behind the existence of giants.

Giants in Ancient History

Like we previously stated, it’s no secret that giants are a huge part of our history. We know that because giants have been a part of virtually every piece of ancient literature that’s ever been found. In the bible, giants are written about as being actual angels, or half angel, half human creatures. David and Goliath is a famed story where a small teenager takes down a man who, as the story states, measured about thirty feet tall (by modern measurements, of course) by using a sling shot to throw a stone at the middle of his forehead. Greek mythology also shows giants in a similar light of being supernatural in some way. We can gather here that even if giants did exist, there was never a time where it was common to just be large. Giants have always stood out as something truly extraordinary.

Evidence of Giants?

All the way from the dusty plains of China to the sandy shores of Mexico, giant human skeletons have been found. One of the very first giants that archaeologists were able to successfully uncover was found in China and was carbon dated to be about 300,000 years old. Other skeletons of giants have been found in China that appear much younger. Some are as young as 5,000 years old, and others, are more like 20 or 50,000 years old. The bones found in China ranged from measuring between twenty five and thirty two feet tall! In one of the sets of remains that were unearthed, each rib bone belonging to seemingly just one giant measured at being about four inches wide and a yard long.
The Philippines have delivered some smaller giants to us as well. Their giants were about seventeen feet tall, and their bones were so thick even after years of being in the ground, it’s notable to mention that these giants were probably undefeatably strong. Mexico had the smallest giants at only about twelve feet tall, but even at being the smallest, twelve feet is a hefty height to even try to envision. Much of the DNA tested in these giants contains a type of mutation that’s not of anything we now have on earth, past, present, or future.

Do We Know How Giants Lived?

Very little is known about the specifics when it comes to the job description of giants, but we can assume that many of them were warriors. Not only did their stories in ancient history chronicle their extensive battle records, but many of them were buried with their enormous pieces of armor and bows and arrows that were also obviously gigantic in size. Many of the arrows found with the skeletons of North American giants appeared to have sharpened white quartz on the end, suggesting that they were spiritual types of warriors. Otherwise, it’s totally safe to assume that they went about their normal, daily lives just as others would—just on a very, very large scale. The women took care of the children, cooked, and made clothing while the men went to battle. In one piece of literature found in Mexico, there is a verse that states that the giants even had their own little village on the outskirts of on town. Did they live separately by choice? Or, perhaps, were they sent there in exile out of fear that “normal” sized humans undoubtedly had for them? One thing that giants had in their favor, however, is that the giant women and children probably always knew that their husband and fathers would return from war virtually unscathed. We know from the stories told during the time of giants that taking down a giant (unless you’re David in David and Goliath) was a real feat, and one that took many years to prepare for, and not something that was done very frequently.

Do Giants Still Exist?

It’s clear that giants of the magnitude we’ve talked about do not exist anymore today. However, the world’s tallest man stood at around ten feet tall, and it’s not unlikely that he was a descendant somehow of one of these enormous creatures.
