Understanding Voting On Steemit

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

Voting on Steemit can be a confusing thing. Especially if you don't understand how it all works.

Watch the video to learn all about voting on Steemit. If videos aren’t your thing then click here to check out the transcript and read more information on how voting works on Steemit.

SteemitVideos is a project created by @spencercoffman dedicated to helping you grow on Steemit. All videos will be posted here directly from the Spencer Coffman YouTube channel. You’ll be able to watch them there before we post them here! So consider subscribing to be alerted when the new videos are released.

In addition, you can also join the #gratefulvibes Discord server where there is a Newcomer-Videos room and a Steemit-Questions room where Spencer Coffman will be available to help answer any questions you may have. Of course, you can also comment directly on the YouTube videos for a faster response and comment on our video posts as well.

Iike that you posted the transcript below your video. I don’t really like watching videos, and by providing the transcript, I can still find out what you’re talking about.

Now, I’m not sure about the money being taken away from the upvotes you get. I think the fluctuation has more to do with the fluctuation of the price of SBD.

I noticed you didn’t mention anything about the linear structure of the voting rewards. Basically, when you vote within the first 5 minutes after a post has been posted, you don’t earn any curation rewards: everything goes to the author. Between 5 and 10 minutes, you get a small percentage. That percentage grows bigger until you vote 30 minutes after a post has been posted. At that point, you will earn the biggest curation reward.

Also, it might be good to know that you can use the voting slider, even if you haven’t reached the 500sp milestone yet.
I made a post about it last month:

Thank you! I also prefer to read over watching a video. However, so many people love video content.

I think the fluctuation has to do with a variety of factors. The price of Steem and SBD in addition to the fact that only so much currency is released to users. You accumulate your voting value over time. That comes from a general pool. Once that pool is used up funds are reallocated based on post status.

It seems that the best time to vote is between 25 and 30 minutes. This is some confusing information because curation rewards vary based on many factors.

Thank you for the information about the voting slider. That is a wonderful resource! This is a very valuable comment in that you have shared great information and suggested a post to promote that is related to the topic. Thank you!

Mind if I edit the post to include your link?

No problem.

Curation rewards are indeed a complicated matter. I hope things will become more clear once hard fork 20 will be implemented.

I didn’t know about the reallocztion of funds. That’s something I’ll need to go dig a little deeper about...

Yes, if you find out more great information please drop another comment.
Also, if you have video topic suggestions feel free to contact @spencercoffman.

Thanks. I will

Very informative! It helps us understand more the power of voting it effects to one's steemit account. And very detailed as well. Hands down man.
