The boy who was raised as a dog

in #blog7 years ago

I've finished reading 'The boy who was raised as a dog' and the important points I got from the book are :

  • The first three years of a baby is the most important part of their development

Holding a baby, comforting them when they are crying, or touching them to feel your presence plays a big part in their development. Children who haven't felt love or warmth can be apathetic. They can grow up feeling no empathy or sympathy towards other people. They are the ones called sociopaths. They can harm or kill without remorse.

It can also make the brain underdeveloped. MRI scans show that neglected children tend to have smaller brains.

  • Child abuse is dangerous. Sexual, physical or emotional

As a child, their guardians are their world. When they grow up, they will view the world the same as how their guardian treated them

Sexually abused children shows interest in sexual activities in such a young age. Like the case of the 'child of rage'. She was sexually abused and she abused her (she was 4yo) younger brother too who was just a baby at that time.

Physically abused children tend to be more afraid or more aggressive when they grow up. Sometime they develop this thinking that anyone can hurt them anytime So they tend to be defensive.

Emotionally abused children tend to be really sensitive. They will view the world as people trying to hurt them. They will replay any conversations they had looking for cues that show someone is making fun of them or intentionally hurting them by words.

  • The brain won't develop if it isn't used.

If you won't talk to a child, he won't learn language and you will see that there's a brain shrink at the part if the brain responsible for language.

There's a lot more. I recommend to read this book. Thanks.
