Cania Gorge was a beautiful national park we found on our way to Monto, well I should say instead of going to Monto.

We ended up staying in one the caravan parks in the gorge.

There were two to choose from one is a big 4, the other park was where we stayed. It was a lovely park with the gorge rising up on either side.

The owners were very friendly and gave us a great deal. We used a camp site which was a lovely little mowed area. We had toilets and hot showers close by which is great with small kids.

One thing I loved about the trip was it's a short drive or walk to see locations of interest. We took three days which was ample time to see the park, but I could of spent a week.

The weather was hot during the day, cold at night and early morning so pack for both. Our first night was showery and rained heavily so pack for that too.

We drove to Lake Cania at the end of the gorge. The lake was created by constructing a dam wall across the Cania Gorge.

Construction of the dam began in 1989 and was completed in 1992. It's a magnificent sight to see, makes you marvel at what man can achieve.

An amazing fact about the area is in the 1880's gold was discovered here and a small town slowly grew. Like all the gold towns, the gold ran out and the miners disappeared. What was left of the town in now under water where the dam now stands.

While on one of the many walks through the National Park, we found remains of the old mine shafts and the diggings on the hillsides all around this area.

We could see so many amazing rock formations, some were even like caves.

Unfortunately I didn't get any climbing done in this area, so I can't say anything on that.

We couldn't find any nice safe swimming spots for the boys, all the creeks and gullies we found where full flow.

But all in all loved it and will be going back for a week one time.

Apparently there is a beautiful swimming on the other side of the park, the longest of the walking tracks.

We didn't take this track as it was too long and too hard for kids.
