Roller Skating - “A City a story” photo contest #50 Topic (SIGN 招牌)

in #blog5 years ago

If Hong Kong people who grew up in Hong Kong in the 1960s must have seen or lived in public housing estates in Hong Kong, I also moved from the resettlement area to the public housing estates in Hong Kong when I was 6 years old. In fact, there are many very special sign are made by the Hong Kong Housing Department. Do you aware of it?

I remember that when I lived in public housing, because public housing is a dense building, there are usually more than 20 floors, and there may be more than 50 families on each floor. So many children often play in the corridors at their doorsteps. Because the corridors are long and sometimes connect two or three buildings, the children will ride bicycles, “snow skating”, skateboards, and elevators in this corridor. When we were young, we could play football with more than ten people. However, if there are too many children, it will hinder the entrance and exit of the neighborhood, so you will see warning signs on the stairs and elevators. Of course, the children will not pay attention to this warning sign, continue to play football and ride bicycles, and now these villages still use the same warning signs.

Every time I see this warning sign, I will laugh at it. I believe that the most special section is this. This is strictly prohibited for snow skating. I don't think children pay snow skating today, they pay electric scooter now. How many people know what is the "snow skating"? Maybe now, after the 90s, never seen that, don’t know what it is called "snow skate", haha! In fact, roller skates is the predecessor of "snow skate". The early roller skates were not rubber wheel and shoes. There was only one iron plate and four iron wheels. The iron plate can be longer and shorter, and there is a belt and ropes are tied under the shoes, and this is what we call the "snow skating", these are our childhood memories.

Here's a picture I took when I was in Hong Kong Tsing Yi.
