Khanom 2015

(sorry for the small, bad pictures, this is storys from my Swedishblog that I have been translated, and they are taken With my old phone’)

The fact that we went to Khanom was a result of my continually googling after new destinations, I did not know much more than there were nice beaches and pink dolphins, yes I wrote right there is no autocorrect, there were pink dolphins.

More specifically, Khanom is located on the mainland inside Koh Samui, not far from Donsak where ferries cross over to Samui so many have probably been close by on their way to the islands but never stayed here.

We landed in Surat thani from Bangkok after a couple of tough weeks in India and a relatively long flight, and we were totally exhausted.

The plan had been to stay one night in Surat thani and then move on to Khanom

But after a quick discussion on the way to the arrival hall, we decided to go straight, we also shocked our bodies by taking a taxi instead of the local bus into town to look up the bus terminal for further travel to Khanom, it is not the way We usually do it, but sometimes the plan become different.

Because we did not really know where we were, it became a bit daring with the taxi, but we kind of said that we wanted to go to khanom village to any hotel or guesthouse, I actually do not know today if it's called khanom village where we were or not.

After passing a lot of countryside looking out fem the car windows he stayed on a quite busy street with shops and little restaurants, pointing at something that looked like a hotel but the name was in Thai and the word hotels could not be read.

Khanom hotel as it later turned out it was called, is a totally ok middle class hotel, with hotel rooms ranging from about 350 baths to about 650 baths.

We checked in at an intermediate price, and for that we got AC and fridge on the purchase, the lady at the front desk spoke almost no english.

We decided to sleep a couple of hours first and then go out and check the surroundings.

After a few hours of sleep We step back out on our "street" and we met a completely different view than the one we last saw .

The entire street was closed off from traffic and turned into a thriving market with lots of food, fruit, clothes, shoes and gadgets.

It was music and lots of people and everything sold was at really low prices.

There were very few westerners so we really represented an exotic feature in the crowd, the market continued even after the darkness and colored lights hung as a roof over the glory, and it was great fun to mingle around there and taste all the delights offered.

The following day we eventually managed to find a place further up the street that rented motorbikes. And after that we found out that breakfast was not something that was served in town, but as always in Thailand, nothing is impossible..

We found a little restaurang that served instant coffee, juice and even fried eggs or omelette, and after a little hands in the air and mixed thai english we understood that it was okay if we bought our own bread, butter and jam from Tesco, and she fixed the rest.

The language skills in this small society were very varied, with most of it, non-existent. But it can also be quite fun and educational.

During the days we spent visiting all the shores of Khanom, they were  many and long white sandy beaches with incredibly little people, after some beaches we could see resorts that lay low, but they also seemed quite empty, and we felt a little like outsiders.

Many we met asked us ”when the other would come, if they were on their way now ”... and then they meant the other tourists.

What we heard they had apparently tried to do charters to Khanom earlier, but it did not workedout because there were no taxis or tuk tuks so people who ended up on the resorts along the beaches were literally just stranded.

The transports that are available are taximotorbike, you sit behind and someone in green vests drive you around and it's not enough comfortable for everyone.

So my tip is as always rent a motorbike, so you can enjoy so many more beaches.

( this is not my photos, my was at a very long distance, this is a screendump from Google )

On one of our excursions, we went to a place called dolphin spotting or something like that, we were lucky enough to see those amazing pink dolphins from the bay, it's apparently not so common that they get so close to see them from land , but the most common is that you have to go by boat.

We became very fond of khanom, a cozy, authentic Thai city, amazing beaches within motorbike distance, nice people and for the first time we actually said that we would be able to stay and live here, even though we love being on the move.

Should I give something minus, it was quite windy, the first days I did not think so much about it, but we stayed almost for two weeks, and then I noticed that it actually blew more or less every day, it was not so that you freeze, but a little annoying at the end of the day.

I asked someone I talked to if it always was windy, and he answered that it was the time of year (we were there in February) and that it was less windy in the summer.

Anyway, I would highly recommend Khanom (if you like to get around on a bike) as a destination if you want to see something different from the usual destinations in Thailand So far, before "the others" comes.

not everything has to be perfect, to be loveable 🌺❤️☮️
