Narrated by Abu Huraira (R), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "He is not a real hero who can make others fall into wrestling, but he is the real hero who can control himself during the time of anger."

The Methods of controlling anger

Yes, we all know that reality is not right at all, it is not right to be angry with anger. Therefore, it is important to know and apply the way to control our instability, tension or anger immediately to prevent our own defeat. And you can do this by following just three steps. -

#Method No.1

  • Remove yourself from the place of excitement or unrest.

#Method No.2

  • Close the eyes.

#Method No.3

  • Start Slow Breathing Exercise or Voluntary Abdominal Breathing (VAB). Reduce the pores of the mouth, and exhale the air as much as possible from inside the chest, as much as possible in the inner side of the stomach. Then breathe deeply in the stomach. Then, holding down a little bit, keep the wind blowing from the mouth slowly (half a bit faster than breathing) and keep in mind that the stomach should be placed inwards. Continue to breathe for a while. Count the number from the opposite side at the time to reduce the distortion (19,18,17,16,15 ....).

  • Neuroscience Research (Volume 50, Issue 3, November 2004, pages 307-317) shows that due to such controlled breathing, the rapidly moving waves in the brain result in the formation of anger, tension and unsettlingness.

  • The strategy of this self-control free of cost can save you from many losses of excitement and unrest. However, this kind of slow breathing exercise can increase your ability to tolerate tension and unrest, for a little while before sleeping in the morning and at night.

I like the slow breathing technique. One of the reason it works it's because breathing slow tells the body it's a safe environment and it can relax.
Also you mentioned forgiveness. I stand firmly by this idea. If you can honestly forgive someone you are cured.
