Location, location, location
That's the conventional wisdom about what's important when looking for a home. If you've never lived in a region that doesn't experience cold weather, the tropics might seem like the obvious choice – warm days, sunshine, beaches, and crystal clear turquoise water, palm trees and flowering plants.
What's not to love? It's perfect right? Let's even stipulate that in this perfect world scenario, access to supplies and amenities wouldn't be a problem. Imagine waking up every morning to the sound of the surf on the beach, picking fresh tropical fruit and eating breakfast under the shade of some gorgeous tree overlooking the ocean.
Die gängige Weisheit sagt, daß die Lage ausschlaggebend ist, wenn man nach einem Zuhause sucht. Wenn du noch nie in einer Region gelebt hast, die kein kaltes Wetter kennt, wären möglicherweise die Tropen die offensichtliche Wahl - warme Tage, Sonnenschein, Strände, kristallklares türkisfarbenes Wasser, Palmen und blühende Pflanzen. 
Es ist perfekt, oder? Stellen wir uns sogar vor, dass in diesem perfekten Szenario der Zugang zu Versorgungsgütern und Annehmlichkeiten kein Problem wäre. Stell dir vor, du wachst jeden Morgen mit dem Rauschen der Brandung am Strand auf, pflückst frisches tropisches Obst und frühstückst im Schatten eines herrlichen Baumes mit Blick auf den Ozean.
Seasons
Each season has it's own particular charm and beauty. If everyday is warm and sunny, it's natural to begin to see that as a given. It's been my experience that seasons enhance my appreciation of nature and life – so for that reason my perfect spot would be in a place that has four seasons.
Jede Jahreszeit hat ihren besonderen Charme und ihre Schönheit. Wenn es jeden Tag warm und sonnig ist, ist es selbstverständlich, dies allmählich als gegeben zu betrachten. Es ist meine Erfahrung, dass Jahreszeiten meine Wertschätzung für Natur und Leben verstärken - aus diesem Grund hätte mein perfekter Ort vier Jahreszeiten.
Weather
So seasons are great, but it isn't as simple as that. If you are on the Northern side of the Alps in Germany, you will have twice as many rainy days as you will have on the Southern side of the Alps in Italy. So although Germany is an extremely beautiful place when the sun shines, it doesn't shine as much as it does in a comparable area in Italy. So my perfect location would be on the Southern side of the Alps.

Die Jahreszeiten sind zwar großartig, aber Wetter spielt auch eine Rolle. Wenn man auf der Nordseite der Alpen in Deutschland ist, hat man doppelt so viele Regentage, wie auf der Südseite der Alpen in Italien. Mein perfekter Standort wäre also auf der Südseite der Alpen.

The Perfect House
In an earlier post we looked at some amazing tree houses, and they would certainly be in contention for my perfect home. Personally I would not be interested in a sprawling mansion, a cozy home with lots of wood and natural material would be more important for me.
In einem früheren Post sahen wir uns einige erstaunliche Baumhäuser an, und sie würden sicherlich für mein perfektes Zuhause in Betracht kommen. Persönlich wäre ich nicht an einem weitläufigen Herrenhaus interessiert. Mir wäre Gemütlichkeit und viel Holz sowie Naturmaterialien wichtiger.
Certainly a log home would be quite interesting.
Ein Blockhaus wäre sicher sehr interessant.

In the end I think I would opt for a hippy home, an earth ship built with salvaged materials when possible. They allow for an off-the-grid lifestyle, and provide a low environmental impact alternative. Passive heating, lots of natural light, high cielings, green house, and recycled water – a solution with potential for the future.
Am Ende würde ich mich wahrscheinlich für ein Hippie-Haus entscheiden, ein Erdschiff, das möglichst aus wiederverwertbaren Materialien gebaut wurde. Sie ermöglichen einen "Off-the-Grid" -Lebensstil und bieten eine Alternative mit geringer Umweltbelastung. Passives Heizen, viel natürliches Licht und aufbereitetes Wasser – das bietet eine Lösung mit Zukunftpotenzial.

Schade, dass dies bereits der letzte Beitrag aus deiner wunderbaren Serie "The Great Escape" ist!
Meim Traum wäre es, in der dunklen, kalten Jahreszeit in wärmere Gefilde zu flüchten, und den Rest des Jahres in unseren Breiten, vorzugsweise in einer gebirgigen Landschaft, zu verbringen. Momentan gilt jedoch auch für mich:

It would be wonderful if I could escape to home every time! I've only lived in regions that have all four season. I don't mind the winter and especially the transitional times are quite enjoyable (like now). Tropic/no winter climate will be fun too.
The best vacation is leaving the winter behind and spending a couple of weeks in the tropics -- makes you appreciate both ;-)
