Trees are majestic, magnificent, transmuting creations. It's difficult to imagine humans on this planet without them.
As children in school we are taught the wonder of photosynthesis.
The production of oxygen is a beneficial result of photosynthesis, but it is not the main purpose of this process. In fact, oxygen is simply a byproduct. Plants create their own food through photosynthesis. During this process, a plant's roots absorb water from the ground, and its leaves take in light energy and carbon dioxide. The plant uses these elements to make fats, proteins and starches that are then used to sustain the plant's life. During this process, extra oxygen is produced and released. -source
Living in the Alps has given me a much deeper appreciation of trees – without trees our fantastic landscapes would be desolate heaps of stone. In addition to transmuting light energy and carbon dioxide into oxygen, living in the mountains allows you recognize that the leaves and wood of trees contribute organic material that eventually becomes soil. Their ability to establish themselves in seemingly inhospitable places is simply remarkable.

Das Leben in den Alpen hat mir eine viel tiefere Wertschätzung von Bäumen geschenkt - ohne Bäume wären unsere fantastischen Landschaften trostlose Steinhaufen. Weiter als die Umwandlung von Lichtenergie und Kohlendioxid in Sauerstoff, tragen die Blätter und das Holz von Bäumen dazu bei, Erde zu formen. Ihre Fähigkeit, sich an scheinbar unwirtlichen Orten zu etablieren, ist einfach erstaunlich.
Trees are beautiful in their natural state and essential to our environment. They are equally beautiful in the form of wood and also essential to our lives. My ancestors came to a new continent in wooden ships as settlers. Their homes and furniture were wooden, wagons, tools, and nearly every aspect of their lives involved wood – even the final resting place was a wooden coffin.
Sie sind schön in ihrem natürlichen Zustand und lebenswichtig für unsere Umwelt. Sie sind genauso schön und nützlich in Form von Holz. Meine Vorfahren kamen in Holzschiffen als Siedler auf einen neuen Kontinent. Ihre Häuser und Möbel waren aus Holz – Wägen, Werkzeuge und fast alles mit dem sie zu tun hatten, war irgendwie mit Holz verbunden - selbst ihre letzte Ruhestätte war ein Holzsarg.
A wooden sabbatical
Concrete, steel, & plastic have superseded wood to a significant degree. Here in Germany wooden homes are uncommon, and some people even prefer to decorate their living space with a spartan industrial look.
My great escape would be wood everywhere, a wooden sabbatical.
Beton, Stahl und Kunststoff haben Holz in erheblichem Maße verdrängt. Hier in Deutschland sind Holzhäuser ungewöhnlich und manche bevorzugen es sogar, ihren Wohnraum mit einem spartanischen Industrie-Look zu dekorieren.
Mein „Great Escape“ ist überall mit Holz zu leben. Ich träume von einem hölzernen Sabbatical.

Leider hat es immer mehr Plastik! Würde gerne ein grosser Pinocchio aus Holz sein, aber bin leider nur ne Plastik-Schaufensterpuppe :-(

Grandios, nichts geht darüber als einfach einmal in einen Wald zu fahren, auszusteigen und nur zu atmen, die Luft alleine tut dem Körper gut, man merkt es sofort.
