The rare Australian 1968 2 cent coin - upset die error!
One of my hobbies is coin collecting. A few years back I was right into it, noodling change and even buying old copper one and two cent coins from the bank. For those who don't know , noodling coins is when you buy a bag of coins and search through it for errors. You would be surprised at the amount of rare error coins could have ended up in your hands and quickly spent at the supermarket!
One lucky day, I left a bank with around thirty dollars of Aussie one and two cent coins and got home and started putting them into order so I could search each year at a time for known errors. It's always cool when a 1968 2 cent coin shows up. These coins are pretty rare, with a combination of low mintage, no mint sets released and the rolls wrapped in acidic paper make this one a nice find for the collection.

In this bag of coins were four 1968 2 cent coins. I was stoked even more so when I noticed one was different.
Instead of the image of Queen Elizabeth standing at 12 o'clock, her image had lay back to around the 10 o'clock position!
This was a rare find indeed, called an "upset die".
An upset die occurs when the dies of the coin press are misaligned during pressing or during the machine setup.
I googled it and found nothing on the internet about the coin, I even posted images of the coin on a coin collector forum, there were a few oohs and ahhs but no real feedback. Even now, there is little information about this coin on the net, But I have one and I think thats pretty cool!

Just for your interest, heres an image of the reverse of the 2 cent coin, pictured is the thrill necked lizard!
I hope you enjoyed the information and images, if you have a jar of old ones and twos, have a look! You never know what you'll find!
